We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I first decided to start my own business, I was a 23-year old, single mom. I had just left my first full-time corporate job after working there for only 9 months. I accepted a new position and was so eager to start, I submitted my 2-week notice before signing the official offer letter from the new company. My first job let me go ahead of my notice date and the new job ended up offering me a much lower salary than what was initially discussed. Instead of accepting their offer, I decided I was worth more and could earn a better living as my own boss.

What should our readers know about your business?
Bodies in Motion Wellness promotes spiritual, emotional and physical wellness for women through events, classes, retreats and coaching. What sets my business apart from others is the wrap-around support we provide for women. What started as a dance fitness business has evolved into a full blown wellness company and I am so proud! Getting to this point was not easy. The pandemic prompted me to shift from hosting in person classes and events to virtual offerings. This was definitely a challenge for me because I love connecting with women personally. During this pivot, I realized my mission was greater than just helping women get in shape. My mission is to help women live their best lives by ensuring they are healthy spiritually, emotionally and physically. I have to remind myself daily that someone’s healing is tied to my work. I must keep going just to help and inspire that one person. I have learned so much about myself and the importance of knowing yourself, trusting yourself and loving yourself during every phase of your life. I am thankful for these lessons and grateful for the opportunity to share what I have learned with women around the world. I want the world to know Bodies in Motion is a safe space for women to learn, be vulnerable and connect with each other. I am truly blessed to be the founder of a brand that has such a positive impact in the lives of women.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm…if my friend was visiting me in Charlotte, NC I would definitely take them to the Ballantyne Hotel to eat. This is my favorite place to eat because it’s upscale, service is always top-notch and the food is delicious! I also love the luxurious vibe at the hotel and sometime spend hours working out on the terrace and enjoying the views.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my 8-year old daughter, Aubree. She has been my main source of motivation to keep going even when times get tough. She inspires me daily and has continued to love me unconditionally throughout every phase of my life.
