We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Davila and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erika, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from North Miami. I grew up in a neighborhood where poverty was very present. Where children were having children. I always knew that something was wrong with this picture, according to the family tv shows I had seen in the pass. I knew I wanted to to marry someone who came from a great family not necessarily financially, but with good family values. I left my home when I was 17 to Puerto Rico. I began with a hotdogs stand to owning a restaurant and bar. I felt like a slave but I worked really hard to achieve my dreams and failed. I then came back to Florida and decided to start hair school. I had a few ups and downs. I finally attended a hair class that changed my life. The teacher taught a color class with 3 different patterns. At the time I was not aware, but apparently patterns are a way of survival for people with adhd. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago and I finally understood all my struggles. I was able to perform better and most importantly, understand my worth. I am now a successful hairstylist with a waiting list I never even imagined I would have. I work in a space with amazing human beings. Where laughter and love reins at all times. Today the people that sit in my chair are people I truly love, and give me the freedom to express my creativity the best way I know how to, without pressure. I am so grateful to be doing all the things I love at all times. 🙏
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I struggled a whole lot, but hey no one said shaping your life would be that easy. You have to be willing to face the uncomfortable to step out of your comfort zone in order to grow. The number one thing that helped me is to be open to critique/feedback. Don’t be insulted by the what if you try it this way. Be open and willing to learn. Be aware of your emotions at all times so that you can change what is not working for you. Create positive words that remind yourself how great you are. Mine are I love you Erika never forget it, and I only do all things I love. Repeat it so much until you live and breathe just this. I am now a successful hairstylist surrounded by loving positive people living my best life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m into fitness and living a healthy lifestyle. I love restaurant that have clean healthy options. Maya papaya is one of them and my favorite fun spot is in wilton manors a cute little outdoors space with fun restaurants like the alchemist amongst others. In the back they have beautiful graffiti artistic walls where you can take the most amazing pictures.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout to my mentors in the yoga community Kmilla kundalini, Travis Eliot, Ali Kamenova, Master Sri arkashana and the whole team from mind valley. I have been heavily immersed in yoga, meditation and self help classes. My mentors along with my angel of a husband and son have helped me evolved into the person I am today. I have developed mentally the power to create the most amazing reality for myself and I am truly grateful to each and one of them for transforming my life. 🙏
