We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Deady and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor in my success is pursuing the right thing at the right time. My business focuses on helping local governments plan for, and adapt to, climate change. As a lawyer and urban planner, it became more of a reality the managing and planning to address increasing flood risk in a state like Florida, surrounded by water, was a pressing need for cities and counties. Its an economic issue, its a quality of life issue, its a political balancing act of making choices on how to spend constrained taxpayer funds. Being on the leading edge of this work at the right time has helped make me an excellent resource for my clients. Staying on the leading edge is what helps keep my clients.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am most proud and excited about the opportunities our state has to really dive in and start making decisions about our changing climate. This is impacting people, where they live and how our cities and counties grow and evolve. We are really ahead of most states in this realm, but we have alot of opportunity to go further and we have a really important element of stewardship for our resources and the places we live that we need to build upon. I have an incredible firm that helps our communities meet these challenges and every day is new project, issue or solution to create or solve. I took a big risk leaving a comfortable job, but it was a risk worth taking because I feel like I can really be creative in how I can meet my client’s expectation and help them. I ate alot of cheap meals and attended alot of “free food” events for a long time- times were lean. But it has been worth it every step of the way. I want the community to know that our firm and brand are about helping to solve problems our communities face now and in the future. Its challenging work, but we have no other option.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Locally, I would take them to Peanut Island in Palm Beach County and spend a night or two camping and waking up in one of the best parks in the state. I would take them to the Keys (preferably during stone crab or lobster season) and get a little “hand on” to find dinner. And I would absolutely take them to one (or more) of our wonderful state’s springs north of hear (Crystal River is a must see) or some of our other lesser traveled hidden gems where we can kayak on the gin clear water and see wildlife close up.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband and my five year old daughter that help me see and explore our great state that I want to help protect.
