We had the good fortune of connecting with Ester Talasazan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ester, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started YWS Young, Wild and Serene in 2013 from absolutely nothing; no background in fashion, no idea about manufacturing and production. I literally went into it head first. believing in my vision and desire to create fun and comfortable clothing. Things fell into place as I did my research and invested my heart and soul into every piece. I have had setbacks and made mistakes, but trying to grow and learn from each one, is what didn’t allow any of them to stop me. I cry happy tears every time I see one of my creations come to life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
At first tie dying was a DIY project that I was doing for fun until a designer friend of mine Aimee David, Designer of Queen of E.vil asked me to create a tie dye line that she wanted to pitch to Soul Cycle. Thats when it hit me that I can create and design a line that’s fun and comfortable. I LOVE wearing comfortable clothes. I’m the queen of comfort and casual. You’ll most likely always catch me in a cool pair of oversized sweats and sneakers. I figured I can create a line that is dedicated to the confident girl who wants to express herself in comfortable and stylish clothes. In the 60s tie-dye was worn as a symbol of counterculture, and today it is a fashion staple. Our collection is colorful, hand dyed, and one of a kind. Each design uniquely celebrates and reflects the individuality and creativity of each person who wears it. There is no such thing as the so-called “defected product,” each piece is embraced as we believe each person wearing our clothing should be. YWS pieces are always comfortable to represent the laid-back Cali style where our company was born.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes! A designer friend of mine Aimee David, Designer of Queen of E.vil. She’s the first person that believed in my creativity.
