We had the good fortune of connecting with Evelyn Cruz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evelyn, what do you attribute your success to?
I strongly believe in being transparent. In not pretending that I’ve arrived already because we are constantly evolving, constantly growing as individuals. And in the constant moving forward, we face struggles, self doubt, and realizations of where we see ourselves in the near future. I share all of these transitions with my audience. I think it gives my audience the experience of knowing that we all face the same every day challenges. And that they are not alone.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
TheSilverChick over on ebay was created several years ago during a time in my life when I needed to stay busy because I was grieving the loss of my parents. I dove into creating the business online, began learning about vintage pieces, the designers at the time, attending estate sales, I’d purchase equipment to take photos of the clothing, and the shop opened online. Shortly afterwards, the Pandemic shifted the business. More shoppers were purchasing online. My pieces began to sell. One of my pieces was purchased by a design school in New York. I was elated when they decided to use the piece as a reference for future designs.

Moving forward, we’d all return to business as usual and online shopping began to decrease. The business is at a stand still at the present time where I have not added any new pieces. With all these transitions, I have learned to give myself grace. I have learned patience. And I have learned that everything in life is timing.

My goal is to own a quaint vintage brick and mortar shop where women and men can come in the shop, served tea in vintage tea cups, sit and read a book, and shop among the vintage pieces in the store. Will this be easy to accomplish? Will the concept succeed? Yes! I’d want to offer people a place where they can walk into and feel like they’re home.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start by dining at BBQ and Craft at Brickell. This is one of my favorite restaurants. They serve the best pulled pork in the Miami area. On Sunday, we’d he’d over to Viscaya Museum and Gardens to visit the botanical gardens and taste the delicacies prepared by local vendors. Later during the evening we’d enjoy salsa dancing at Ball and Chain on Calle 8. Miami offers an array of options for entertainment and fun that we’d need more than a weekend to experience Miami in its fullness.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I try to read as much personal development material like for instance “Failing Foreard” by John Maxwell and “You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero are 2 of my go to books during those times when I need a little motivation.

My son Nick is also so.eone I’d like to give credit to. His love and advice has carried me through the ups and downs of my brand. Thank you sweety for always understanding.
