Meet Famelly Del Orbe | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Famelly Del Orbe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Famelly, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
It has definitely been a winding road finding a balance in my work life and I know I’ve got a ways to go, but I truly feel pride in how far I’ve come when I think back to where I started. At first it was inevitably draining since I found myself so submerged in my craft, the line between work and my personal life was nonexistent and quitting was on the table more than Id like to admit; but I’m so glad I never did. Along this journey I reinvented myself so many times, became an advocate for mental health, recognized the importance of boundaries and learned to be, what they call in my country, a “todologa” (Jack of All Trades). As a new Interior Designer I became my own cameraman, editor, director, graphic designer, etc. all while being a homemaker and student; the word balance then sounded foreign and even less so that I was obsessed with succeeding, creating a name for myself, figuring out what my “style” was and reaping all those sleepless college nights I had sowed. After five years I can say I’m finally feeling harmony in my work life.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Regardless of the project at hand, I like to leave a little bit of myself in each one while doing my absolute best to deliver what my clients envisioned. I’d say I set myself apart because regardless of how many clients I acquire as my business grows, each one is welcomed with open arms as I did my very first one. I’m a very hands-on person and love to create, not just spaces, but all sorts of crafts with which I use to reflect a calm and fresh vibe with a minimalist-Scandinavian style.
The most exciting part of my job I’d say is seeing my visions come to life; I could never get tired of that feeling and it gets me every time.
I have managed to get to where I am today mostly because I learned to welcome my own critique and have an incessant desire to become a better version of me, personally and professionally. It hasn’t been an easy journey because it has taken a lot of dedication, effort, sacrifices and learning from my own mistakes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I currently live in Downtown Fort Lauderdale and absolutely love everything about it, including how safe it feels. If my best friend were to visit me here, the first thing I’d do is take her on a bicycle tour around the city (I kinda do this with everyone that visits us haha). The architecture and landscapes of the homes here are gorgeous and would definitely ride through the neighborhoods to show her. We’d end up at the beach to enjoy the scenery and sound of the waves, which is merely a 15 minute bike ride from home. From there we’d travel down Las Olas Boulevard to catch a glimpse of the restaurants, bars and boutiques along the road that we’d later be visiting. After going back home and freshening up for the night, we would finally end up at The Wharf (my favorite hang out spot in Fort), where we lounge, drink, eat and play a bunch of games with friends and strangers alike.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am fortunate enough to have an extensive list of family and friends to dedicate this shoutout to for supporting and believing in me since day one. Thank you. But I’d like to extend the most gratitude to my husband and sister who wipe my sweat & tears on the hardest days and hold my hand throughout every step of building my business.
Whenever I’ve had an idea for a design or DIY project, as far-fetched as it might sound, my husband is the first to figure out the most sustainable and simplest way to bring it to life and my sister stands by me to cheer me on, to celebrate every little achievement and be my mental & emotional backbone. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
