We had the good fortune of connecting with Fanta Waterman of Serrette Brown Research and Consulting, LLC.and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fanta, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Serrette Brown’s mission is to increase representation of underserved, underrepresented and under-investigated communities in health literature. Since 2018, we have supported strategies, generation and dissemination of valid, interpretable, actionable evidence  on population health topics; this year, in addition to our work with clients committed to improving health outcomes in conditions of high unmet need, we celebrate 5 years of supporting social entrepreneurs and partner organizations around the world, donating over 300 hours to date of research, strategic consulting, manuscript development, and policy briefs.

What should our readers know about your business?
Serrette Brown is a boutique consultancy exploring topics in health and leadership, generating evidence and strategies to support health access and attainment among underserved and under-investigated communities for maximum local and global impact. Organizations partner with us to execute research and initiatives at the local level, to inform and inspire meaningful change for their communities which are often underrepresented in traditional research or characterized too broadly to apply study findings in a way that is locally relevant to them. Today, SBRC clients include nonprofits, startup-to-small biotech, and municipal health departments, for whom we develop multi-year value strategies, story development execution, and dissemination including:

– policy and advocacy support
– evidence generation strategy and execution
– communication planning, development and execution (including publications)
– vendor selection, management and oversight
– additional partner identification and support

Our past and present clients and partners are headquartered in North America, the Caribbean, East Africa, and the Middle East.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Miami! There’s always such a great energy in the city. Especially in the Fall for Miami Carnival, I recommend supporting the local vendors and merchants, trying the amazing cultural mix of foods and drinks, and joining the lime! Also, it’s always fun to take a photo in front of the Christmas tree at Bayfront park in December.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to shoutout our clients and partners representing all corners of the healthcare industry, especially our NGO partners over the years, including Lake Health and Wellbeing (based in St. Kitts, WI), the Barbados Association of Endometriosis and P.C.O.S., the Country Youth Adolescent Network – Kenya, the Hunts Point Alliance for Children, and Women Impact, Inc., among others! These organizations have trusted Serrette Brown with their mission to serve their communities and been excellent learning partners in helping us to achieve our mission.
