We had the good fortune of connecting with Fashionette Finley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fashionette, how do you think about risk?
I’ve always been told that I was a risk taker. I’m not one to be afraid to try something. I strongly believe in, “If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again” (William Edward Hickson). So even when I am afraid, I muster up the courage and just do it. So as life presents opportunities, it is always easier to run from them. Most times my initial reaction is fear and nervousness, which are a struggle for me, but I gather myself and take a leap of faith. I take the risk. I am a strong believer in God and in His word, so I always remember the scriptures, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1) and, James 2:14-26 in the times that I become stuck. How will we ever know if something will work or not if we don’t take a step towards it, if we don’t take that risk, if we don’t try? So taking risk is in my DNA. Some results of those risk have not been good but some of them have led to success and happiness.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Inspiring by nature, my brand, Fashionette Beauty formulates an experience in which awakens inner beauty and ignites self love. My passion for beauty has created an avenue for women to be distinct, authentic, extraordinary and confident. My vision is to create a community for women of color to help them fully embrace their uniqueness, heal inwardly and manifest that outwardly, and because of my brand’s differing representation of beauty, we embody just that, with a brand that not only focuses on the product but also on our consumers. We made our mark in the beauty industry with lashes geared towards accenting the natural beauty, Fashionette Beauty lashes are known to be the catalyst for giving lashes a new definition. We popularized #LashesandLooks & #HighFashionLashes, by creating a world called “The Be-U-Tea Haus”, where we combine beauty and high fashion, presenting the world with fashion forward beauty. I am most proud of the impact that my brand has made so far. With the help of the Lord, I have been able to motivate & shift the mindsets of several women who suffer from low self esteem, insecurities, identity issues and depression. To hear their testimonies of how something I have done, said or posted has changed them, lets me know that Fashionette Beauty is headed in the right direction and I am fulfilling purpose. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t follow the rules of what society thinks a lash brand should be. While everyone else looks the same, Fashionette Beauty stands out on it’s own with the world we’ve created for our Be-U-Teas. Our voice is different, our sound is different & our style is different. It’s important to me to stay true to who I am and it shows through my brand. What led me to where I am today is my story, my love for the beauty industry and my purpose. That purpose is to be a solution for many women of my culture who have had some of the same issues I’ve had but have a hard time healing inwardly and manifesting that outwardly. A strong foundation is always the key to growth and success in anything you do. Besides these reasons, my passion, work ethic and focus has helped me get to where I am now. I can’t forget the education i’ve received as a student of Karla’s Bootcamp & Kollege. Which is a virtual business and branding school in which I recently graduated from. Karla’s Kollege has been one of the best business investments I have done so far. This has been one hard road. I have been in business only one year and I have lost more than I’ve gained. Being new in business, I am still learning alot of things. I would say the biggest struggle for me has been trusting the right people. To overcome these challenges, I have been educating myself on the areas I struggle most in when it comes to business, and I have also used the tools and resources given to me while I was in business school to help me succeed. I want the world to know that we are here to make an impact and fulfill a purpose greater than ourselves. We strive for excellence in all we do and we bring each customer a beautiful experience. We are influencing the world in a positive way. And as long as I am fulfilling purpose while doing what I love, this alone is going to manifest success. I believe everything else will follow because I am doing what God has placed me here to do.
