We had the good fortune of connecting with Fayth Ribeiro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fayth, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
So, I had a pretty good career building up in Accounting at the time I decided to jump the tracks and do photography full-time. Although I didn’t mind accounting, I couldn’t escape the feeling that it just didn’t fit. It was like wearing a very beautiful but uncomfortable suit. It appeared and seemed great, put together, ambitious…but it just wasn’t ME. I wanted to be around people, I wanted to be creative, I wanted to bring joy – not panic. (LOL). At the cross-road of this realization, I decided to invest myself in something I loved doing, felt passion for, and would feel more true to who I was, and so the idea of turning my photography passion into a business was born. Although I had SO much to learn and I felt that I would be behind the power curve in terms of the competition out there, I decided to just go for it – I dove in to education, I leveraged all my contact and resources to put myself out there and just decided to put everything into making my business work for a couple of years and see what happens. If it failed, I would go back to accounting, but I had to try. Luckily for me, here I am 10 years later, having made a life around something I have passion for and met so many amazing people, and had so many amazing opportunities and experiences along the way. I couldn’t have asked for a better journey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As I’ve traveled the journey of this artistic career, it’s been a really great experience meeting and getting to experience so many different types of places, people, situations, ideas. All of these experiences really just build on each and compact into becoming the best artist and photographer I can be. Is it easy? No. But nothing worth it is going to be that easy. I’ve had to remind myself of this many times. I think being an artist is hard because you are SO passionate about your art and you are constantly putting so much of yourself out there for everyone to see and judge, buy or not buy, like, or pass on. You definitely have to keep perspective and be self-motivated without being easily discouraged. That is the constant battle, moving forward even when you are having a lot of self-doubts, feeling discouraged, or even hurt by something – mindset is SO important as an artist and definitely as an entrepreneur. For me, this will always be a work in progress but I am finally at a point that I am confident in what I have to offer, and I am not afraid to ask for what I feel my work is worth and what it deserves. This confidence has actually become one of the pillars of my own brand as I have transitioned into more of a Branding Photographer. The confidence of what you have to offer the world is important for any entrepreneur so that you can effectively step into your own spotlight and SHOW up for your clients. This is how you stand out. Because I’ve worked through this progress, I can now offer this to my clients and bring it out in our branding photography experience. I want my clients to step into their spotlight and shine, and I will help them do that confidently.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely, Wynwood is my go-to for visitors. The best vibe, best food, best art, best time. I swear every spot there is unique in its own way. The sunset strip is another great area for just walking around, shopping, and eating great food – one of my very favorite eating places is TacoCraft for A-MAZING tacos. I would take my best friend to see Victoria in Salon Bliss for an amazing spa treatment. Doral CityPlace is another great place to hang out, go to the movies (when it’s open) at Cinebistro, have a yummy lunch at Brimstone, and grab world-famous ice cream at Sloan’s ice cream. Finally, I would of course take anyone visiting from out of state down into the Florida Keys with a stop in Homestead to visit Robert is Here and the Alligator Farm.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow, there are SO MANY people I have to be thankful for where I am now. First and foremost, my husband, Vinnie – without his encouragement and support, it would have been really hard to change careers and would be hard to keep going when things get tough. When I first decided to switch careers, I was so overwhelmed with gratitude for the friends, family and work contacts who helped me launch my new business by word of mouth marketing, and just giving me a chance to show what I could do and help me really get things off the ground. I definitely have to thank my boss David Alvarez at the Miami Heat who not only gave me the opportunity to join his team and the Heat family, but he really pushed me to become a GREAT photographer by pushing me to do my best work. He is always there to help me learn and grow as a professional photographer. I would not be the photographer I am now if it weren’t for his mentorship and giving attitude.
