We had the good fortune of connecting with Federica Nava and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Federica, what’s your definition for success?
I believe there are many ways to define success, and this is something very particular to everyone (success is not something that can be measured – and because of this there are endless possibilities that can define it for every individual. For me success is having the opportunity to fulfill your personal life/business/professional goals – many of us have a list of things we aim for and desire and that when we get to have we find ourselves being lucky/successful. I do know that I still have a long way to go, but I am beyond proud/excited of not giving up on the events world and continuing to make someone’s favorite days their best days ever (from a birthday celebration, to an engagement to a wedding to the birth and baptism of a child!!!).
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I went to school for Hospitality & Tourism Management and while I was studying I had to select an area of expertise and I remember clearly that if it was between hotel management and events I was going to 100% aim for the events area. While in school I went after every opportunity we had to be part of big events, to volunteer, to learn and I remember that it wasn’t easy, we spent endless nights setting up for the famous Sobe Wine & Food Festival and working on the weekends non stop as part of the back of the house of various food stations that sold food & beverage for the Dolphins Stadium – learning all parts of the logistics (from the rentals, the setup, the management of food – staff, endless vendors)… And that’s when I knew I loved it, it made me want to spend more and more hours learning about it all. The last semester before graduation I was selected to be part of the planning team for two weddings one in Aruba and one in Cartagena and I can properly say even though it will not sound healthy at all we were up for almost 36 hours making the 1000ppl wedding in Aruba happen (we built a structure with flooring, walls and A/C) right in front of the beach – I thank you my ex boss (Lisi Korn) and who I owe a lot for learning all about the love for weddings. I believe that what sets me apart is the ability to adapt to last-minute changes, and making sure every detail of the event for flawlessly taken care of!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami is fun and big and now filled with so many places to see and so many things to do! But if my bff was visiting we would definitely start by running around either the Fairchild Tropical Garden (yes a lot of people in Miami forget about this beautiful site) or around Vizcaya! Then going for breakfast or brunch at Le Pain Quotidian in Coconut Grove (small but the cutest coffee place with great croissants). I would then ask her to change and we would stroll around the Design District, stop for coffee or tea at Pura Vida and then see where the night takes us for dinner: pizzas at La Natural or if she is the mood of something fancyyy Le Petit Maison in brickell or if it is Japanese we are in the mood for we would go to Osaka. Another of our days would consist of going a full day to the beach, either renting out some beach chairs at the W in Miami Beach or at the Ritz in Key Biscayne and having bites and drinks at the beach and ending up our day having Greek at the Mandolin. Also fun, getting a facial with the best technician ever at The Skin Garage (Miami calls for always doing something extra like this or botox? haha) and then just relaxing at home with some wine and ordering Pubelly Sushi or burgers (huge fan)! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I couldn’t think of anyone else but of my mom when I read this question, thanks to her my passion for doing what I currently do (events and more events) was born after following her everyday actions and simple actions I may say of setting up a pretty breakfast table, thinking of every detail when it came to wrapping and a making a gift for someone extra special (adding a handwritten card, a tiny little bouquet of flowers) and our holiday hosting days at home. While in school I remember I asked a friend who loved to cook, that we start planning tea parties for all of our girlfriends, which we with a lot of excitement started planning and creating invitations for, menus, asked for dress codes and then they day was here and event though for that time we were around 12 years old we had a lot going and on and we loved it! After that I remember wanting every holiday to arrive quickly for me to get ready our home, decorate every little corner and have family and friends over and be able to host!!! As of now, I count with my mom’s help and floral experience and she is part of our growing floral team.
