We had the good fortune of connecting with Fernanda Niemes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fernanda, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Taking risks has been a fundamental part of my journey, both personally and professionally. I believe that risk is an inherent component of growth and transformation. The biggest risk I took was deciding, after 15 years in the corporate world, that I no longer wanted to pursue a corporate career. The turning point came in 2018 when I moved from Ecuador to the USA. This transition forced me to reevaluate my goals and start from scratch.

In my early years, I avoided risks due to fear and uncertainty. However, I came to realize that staying within my comfort zone was holding me back from achieving my true potential. When I hit rock bottom professionally and felt lost about my future, I decided to embrace risk as an opportunity rather than a threat.

Starting my digital beauty business during the pandemic was a also significant risk for me. I faced doubts and fears, but I chose to see it as a chance to rebuild myself and pursue my dreams. This decision not only transformed my career but also opened up new avenues for personal growth and learning.

Taking risks has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of self-belief. It has allowed me to discover new skills, expand my business globally, and create multiple sources of passive income. Moreover, it has given me the courage to mentor and empower other women to take control of their lives and careers.

It has shown me that while the path may be uncertain, the rewards of stepping out of my comfort zone far outweigh the challenges. Embracing risk has enabled me to live a life of freedom and fulfillment, and I encourage others to take that leap of faith towards their dreams.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m the owner of an online beauty franchise focused on helping women transform their hair and achieve their dream look. I started my beauty business from scratch, partnering with the #1 hair care brand in the world, and I have been working 1:1 with clients for the last 4 years. I believe your hair is the crown you never take off, and restoring women’s confidence and self-esteem through beautiful hair is truly rewarding.

This business helped me discover the powerful impact of social media and how it could empower others who wanted to start their own businesses or leave traditional jobs but didn’t know where to begin, so I decided to start another business in digital marketing to be able to help others on how to start an online business, grow on social media and different ways to make money online.

What truly sets my business apart is our personalized approach and deep commitment to community. I focus on understanding each woman’s unique needs and aspirations, not only for their hair but also in business. I strive to create a community of women who support and uplift each other, mentoring them to achieve their personal and professional goals.

One aspect that excites me the most is the empowerment of women through my business. Seeing all these women grow, succeed, and transform their lives is amazing.

Getting to where I am today has not been easy. It required a lot of hard work, resilience, and continuous learning. In the beginning, I faced numerous challenges, including self-doubt, limited resources, and the steep learning curve of digital marketing. Overcoming these challenges meant stepping out of my comfort zone, seeking out knowledge, and building a supportive network.

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of adaptability and continuous learning. The digital world is constantly evolving, and staying ahead requires keeping up with new trends, tools, and strategies. Additionally, I’ve learned the power of self-belief and the impact of a positive mindset. Believing in myself and my vision has been crucial in navigating obstacles and pushing forward.

I want the world to know that my brand is not just about beauty products; it’s about empowerment, growth, and transformation. My story is one of resilience, courage, and the pursuit of dreams. I started from a place of uncertainty and rebuilt myself by embracing change and taking risks. My mission is to inspire and support others to do the same, to believe in themselves, and to create the life they desire.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Miami, here’s what I would plan for us:

We’d start with a relaxing dinner at Intimo in South of Fifth to enjoy the great food and ambiance. The next day, we’d head to the Wynwood Arts District to explore the vibrant murals at Wynwood Walls and have lunch with craft burgers at Kush.

For the next day we will have brunch at Little Hen in Midtown, and we will explore the neighborhood. In the evening, we’d explore Miami’s nightlife, starting with mocktails at a rooftop bar like Rosa Sky, Miami, which offers stunning views of the city skyline.

Obviously, we have to go shopping so I will prepare a day of shopping and exploring, we’d visit the Miami Design District, where we could enjoy luxury boutiques and art galleries after having breakfast at the charming Caffe Dior. We’d have lunch at Swan, known for its elegant ambiance and delicious cuisine.
The fourth day would be a getaway to Key West, where we’d enjoy lobster rolls and explore the amazing keys.

Finally, to relax I’d book a day at The Standard to enjoy their spa facilities and end with a delicious dinner at Lido restaurant.

During her trip, I’ll make sure my best friend experiences the best Miami and the Keys have to offer. It’s all about creating unforgettable moments filled with relaxation, exploration, and the vibrant energy that defines this beautiful city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband. His unwavering support, encouragement, and belief in me, even when I doubted myself, have been invaluable. He has been my rock through the highs and lows, always motivating me to pursue my dreams and take risks.

I also want to recognize my mom, whose strength, wisdom, and unconditional love have been a constant source of inspiration. She has always encouraged me to be resilient, positive, and to believe in myself. Her guidance has shaped me into the person I am today.

Additionally, I want to acknowledge the incredible community of entrepreneurs and mentors I have met along the way. Their insights, experiences, and advice have been instrumental in helping me navigate the challenges of starting and growing my business.
