We had the good fortune of connecting with Fernando Sucre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fernando, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I started to paint “seriously” at age four when I developed an unusual fascination with comics books, cartoons and superheroes. Growing up in the excessive social scene that was Caracas of the 70’s and early 80’s, I soon translated my taste for comics into a new style of caricature filled with satire, humor and playful parody. I became known for my wild characters, neurotic bar scenes and colorful interpretations of the rich and famous.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I studied aviation and I have a MBA in aviation, I worked for 13 years to different airplanes companies ,but inside me I knew that painting was my real passion and Pop Art was the style I identified with it. As an artist living and working in Miami, I find the environment here creatively invigorating. Sources of inspiration in his particular mode of expression, “pop” painting, seem to exude from every corner of this amazing city.
I found that “pop” art is great because it crosses just about any cultural barrier. It’s not making political statements or overly philosophical. It’s a very accessible style of art. It’s perhaps the best art form for anyone who might be intimidated by art. It’s fun, bright, colorful and full of a unique kind of energy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely go to South Beach , Wynwood , Design District , Calle 8 and Brickell. We will visit different restaurants and show them this wonderful melting pot that is Miami where you find the best places to eat, visit and have fun .

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife , she is my support . Always believe in me and my art , also all my art collectors that buy my paintings and love it
