We had the good fortune of connecting with Flowers For The Culture and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Flowers For The Culture, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind our success and the success of our brand is black joy and consistency. Consistency should be a given but showing up for our listeners gives us creditability. Also, attaching Black joy to any factor keeps us going.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Flowers For The Culture is a podcast started two years ago by two good friends, Crowned ReRe and Mr. Al Pete. Both enjoy recognizing great talent in the Black culture. What sets us apart from other podcasts is that our podcast is evergreen, meaning that you play any episode at any time and enjoy it as if it was released that day.
We are most proud and excited about winning the best Black culture podcast award presented by the Black podcast award.
Providing great content while having fun doesn’t make pressing record difficult.
If you are doing something you genuinely love as a creative, what may seem challenging is a lesson learned.
That Black joy can exist, that men and women can get along to create something beautiful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Al Pete: for eating, I would take my friend to Hawkers. Probably to the beach location, so after we finish eating, we can hit the sands for a good and easy view of the water. After that, I would swing back through Downtown and go to Volstead for a cocktail.
On one of the days of the week-long trip, we would travel to St. Augustine, Florida (which is about 30 miles south of Jacksonville, Florida) and do a city tour. St. Augustine is a chill spot with great restaurants, sights, and history.
I would make sure it’s a weekend where a festival is happening. Going to an outside event in Duval County is great. Even when it’s winter, an easy 65 degrees won’t hurt to be in and listening to some great local music.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We look to each other for motivation, encouragement, and joy before, during, and after each recording session. We also give each other shout-outs for learning and applying work-life balance.
