We had the good fortune of connecting with Frances Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Frances, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process of starting my own business was one I wanted freedom of worrying about not being able to spend time with my kids when I wanted to. Also, I struggle a lot with anxiety and depression and I know how I feel once my skin is looking nice and my makeup is on point. So I wanted to help make others feel good and look good. Whether it was a good or bad time but n their lives

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I am a makeup artist, esthetician, and wax tech. One thing that I think sets me apart from the others is my kindness, my understanding, my caring for clients’ time, my passion for help making positive memories for my clients, and my welling to always learn new things in the industry. No, being in this industry is not easy for me. I think because I’m doing everything from accounting, marketing, inventory, cleaning, classes, and the clients by myself.
How I overcame these challenges was that I stopped being overly hard on my failures and I learned from them. I also do work in sections and not all at once.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well honestly, I have kind of lost touch in this area, but one place that I did enjoy going to is Wynwood. The atmosphere I feel is like for kind of artist. Music, hair, makeup, fashion, tattoo artist, models I mean you name it. Another place to visit will be Bay Side. I like Bay Side because it’s by the water. Last but not least, will be to chill at the beaches. The beach is the most favorite place for me to go. I mean the breeze, the sun, and water it is my zen.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, there is a book called When Pleasing Others Hurts You. I read this book when I was at a point in my life when I was just tired and wanted to give up on practically everything. Once I read this book it really helped me jump start a new beginning in my life. Also, my 6 kids really encourage me to keep going. They are really my life line.
