We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriela Baluja and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabriela, how do you think about risk?
Risk is just an opportunity waiting to be taken. I have taken many risks in my nail artist career, among that of content creation and personal goals. I don’t think theres been a moment where risk was not a factor! When I first started, I had the risk of not being able to support myself without having clients. I put in my 100% and no matter what obstacle came, I knew I had to just “figure it out” and I always did because I believed in myself and always dived in. I risked it more by moving far away, and making big changes, but alas risk is about whether or not you take it!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My whole life I was an artist by my own definition, the funniest thing is that I have only ever taken 1 “real” art class. I dived into the beauty realm with that of makeup artistry after years of just doing paint & paper, and then I dove into that of nail artistry and it blew up into my passion. It was definitely difficult because it is an incredibly different art medium, but it is the coolest thing ever to me. Everyday people get to wear my tiny canvases everywhere and that is so fun to me

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Miami there is so much to do, and with the diverse communities there is definitely a lot to go and experience! Personally I love going to the different farmers markets there are around the city, and going to Boba tea shops. On weekends I love going to a Drag Brunch and going to the beach! We could also go to one of the dozens of museums and pop ups here too!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my parents and those who have believed in me from the jump! I have went through hard personal issues but my parents have always had my back. My responsibilities and my success could not be possible without their endless support!
