We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Resnick Ariana Kenigsberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabrielle Resnick, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Gabrielle: I thought of the idea for starting the podcast the summer before Junior year as I began thinking about college, majors, and careers. I felt that I was unprepared to make such important decisions and wanted to learn more about different careers. That summer I found internships, shadowing opportunities and spoke to women across professions when I realized that the information I was learning would be valuable to many. That is when I decided that I was going to start a podcast where I could broadcast my conversations with successful women asking them to explain the ins and outs of their career, as well as how they balance it with their family responsibilities. I asked Ariana to Co-host with me, because I knew that Ariana shared the same interests as me. From there on, we developed it into what it was today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work. What role has taking risks played in your life/career?
Gabrielle: Risk is an important characteristic to have – in moderation. Starting a podcast without knowing the first thing about anchor, spotify, apple podcasts, was quite a risk, especially as juniors in high school who have to balance school work, sats, and extracurriculars. However, we were willing to take that risk and I would say it paid off:)

What habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Gabrielle: I think that the habit that has allowed the podcast to be so successful is planning in advance. Almost every week, we meet to discuss scheduling and mark down dates on the calendar in order to ensure that we don’t get overwhelmed. Our interviews are booked months in advance in order to give ourselves time to prep and research our guests, enabling us to be best prepared when we hold our interviews.

What are the lessons you learned along the way?
Gabrielle: I think the most important lesson that I have learned through the podcast is the importance of proper communication. Throughout this journey I have learned how to correctly formulate emails, how to reach out to guests, and most importantly how to be an interviewer and ask questions. This is a skill I will continue to utilize throughout my life and the rest of my journey.

Ariana: The most important lesson our podcast has taught me is that there is nothing stopping you from doing what you love. Being a junior in high school while having a podcast to manage is quite challenging, considering all of the time it takes to create questions, record the podcast, edit the recordings, meet to discuss future planning, etc. However, when it became too stressful to manage we decided to take a break and resume recording at a later date. Additionally, this lesson was revealed through the countless women that we interviewed. They consistently stress how they made time for their families, themselves and their careers. They also demonstrate how they sacrifice some things to pursue what they love most.

Why did you pursue an artistic/creative career?
Ariana: The reason we chose to start a unique podcast is because women truly should have this knowledge prior to making a life-changing decision. Even though a podcast may not be the first idea that comes to mind for any high school girl, we felt that it was the most fitting platform to broadcast our conversations in a way it could easily be accessed. Most people with a phone could listen to our podcast wherever they are. Therefore, a podcast would be the most easily accessible for busy women to listen to.

Work life balance: How has your balance changed over time?
Gabrielle: I would say that when we first began the podcast it was much more time consuming. I spent hours in the studio learning how to edit audio and video clips, as well as how to set the lighting properly, all while trying to balance school work. Since it is summer break, and we are now much more experienced, Ariana and I have been able to spend a lot more time filming episodes and prepping. However, during the school year we do have to cut back on filming and can only really work on our podcast over the weekend.

Ariana: At the beginning of our podcast our academic and extracurricular commitments permitted us to spend countless hours on our podcast. As time progressed, we had to pause the podcast so that we could pay attention to our academic responsibilities. During the summer, we then resumed the podcast and I have balanced it along with my job as a lifeguard, my medical research and my volunteer work. Additionally, my work-life balance has slowly been improving over time. At the beginning of our podcast we may have spent more time on things that didn’t need as much attention. But now, we always spend our time doing everything as efficiently as possible.

What are you inspired by?

Gabrielle: I would say that honestly we are inspired by our listeners. Every podcast that we work on and all the hard work of editing and filming is worth it when I open up my phone to so much love from our listeners. To know that so many young girls are able to use my podcast as a tool to learn about themselves and careers makes me inspired to do the same.

Ariana: I am inspired by our interviewees. The women that we interview are some of the most successful people I know. Listening to their life stories, from their childhood inspirations to their college experiences, to their current lives, pushes me to keep working towards my future goals. These women are also an inspiration to our listeners.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We live in South Florida, so when we aren’t podcasting we love visiting Miami, going to the beach, and walking around Wynwood. If one of our friends was in town we would definitely take them to one of those spots! If we were taking them to meet some cool people we would definitely take them to meet some of our interviewees.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The reason we chose to start a unique podcast is because women truly should have this knowledge prior to making a life-changing decision. Even though a podcast may not be the first idea that comes to mind for any high school girl, we felt that it was the most fitting platform to broadcast our conversations in a way it could easily be accessed. Our listeners deserve a little credit because they are truly our inspiration. Every podcast that we work on and all the hard work of editing and filming is worth it when we open up our instagram to so much love from our listeners. To know that so many young girls are able to use our podcast as a tool to learn about themselves and careers makes me inspired to do the same.
