Meet Gerusa Younes | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gerusa Younes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gerusa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
One of my motivations with photography I think was losing loved ones and very close, it made me see how valuable it is to be able to have memories that you can enjoy. Living is unique. I want to be able to awaken in people the importance of eternalizing moments through photography.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Before having the opportunity to focus only on photography, I took a few paths. I graduated in Cosmetology and Aesthetics, I worked with facial aesthetics and makeup for a few years, in the backstage of makeup jobs I was enchanted with the production and backstage part, I became a producer. And behind the scenes of production I had the opportunity to learn and connect more with photography. The biggest lesson I can bring from this trajectory is to be open to listening to the teachings but even more open to having the courage to follow the area that most makes your heart throb. Without comparisons, without fear, the right people will appear in your path and if you give your best they will feel your truth and the result of your work will meet that tune.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take a friend to visit Wynwood Walls, a neighborhood full of arts, fashion, creativity, stylish people, cozy and colorful places. Wall paintings that look like photographs, so perfect.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest supporters have always been my mother, my brother and my husband. And friends, I would forget someone if I mentioned names, friends who lent equipment when I didn’t have mine, friends who taught each job, friends who let me photographed their families, everyone who reads this will know that they are part of my story.
