We had the good fortune of connecting with GiGi Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi GiGi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I ended up in an emergency room depleted from “hustling” while getting my Master’s degree, holding 3 jobs and managing my first business that I had established back in 2003—that’s when I realized that working hard is NOT the quickest way to success. I also realized that I wasn’t alone, that there had to be other women out there, eager to take on the world and make their wildest dreams come true but were going about it the wrong way and just burning out in the process. The hustler approach makes the road to your dream life unnecessarily longer. After my health scare, I spent years looking inward as well as learning about the true core of joyful living. I got my certifications as a Life Coach as well as in Happiness Studies, Positive Psychology Habits Practitioner, and Mindfulness. I founded my second business, Seizing Happy, a coaching organization. My passion is to bring this knowledge that took me years to acquire, to the public, helping others awaken their greatness and get to their mountaintop– loving every step of the climb!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Seizing Happy has been such a cathartic experience for me as a woman and as an entrepreneur. I opened my first business fresh out of high school (in 2003) and since then I always felt so alone as an entrepreneur. My immediate circle of friends – while amazing – didn’t understand the entrepreneurial life, the sacrifices it took or the hours I kept. That saying “it’s lonely at the top” felt soooo real all the time. Then came the “hustle” and it defeated me in an Emergency Room. I created Seizing Happy to provide to other women entrepreneurs what I wish I’d had when I was starting:  a safe place for support, where I could ask questions and find guidance from other women who value collaboration over competition. Our Seizing Happy community is here to connect, empower and motivate each other. Additionally, I personally help my clients through 1-on-1 coaching teaching them how to overcome their limiting beliefs and tap into their full potential so they can reach their goals quicker and with less burnout. We also have online courses for those who prefer virtual learning. I’ve seen so many amazing breakthroughs with my clients and so much support with our community that it makes me want to keep growing and strengthening our brand.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmmm a week-long trip in Miami… There’s so much to do! We’d definitely start off at Epicentro in Hialeah for their award-winning Pan Con Bistec, cause if you just arrived you must be hungry. Then we’d get bathing suits out and head over to the beach for a little ocean fun in the sun. Then we’d grab an afternoon cocktail at Mango’s with the live music and performers. After a shower and maybe a nap (I’m a big proponent of 20min naps!) We’d dress up and do dinner somewhere like Juvia or Happy Wine and then it’s salsa time! A bailar salsa anywhere Dj. Cabrera is mixing! He always has the best Timba (Cuban style salsa). That’s day one. Day 2: we sleep in, breakfast in bed cause rest is bae. Then head over to the Russian and Turkish Baths in Miami Beach where you can chill in a salt water jacuzzi, get a dead sea mud exfoliation, relax in the sauna, have a delicious lunch in their cafe and then do Sunset Yoga to wrap up the day. Then over to the Roundup in Davie for line dancing! This is one of my fav spots! Day 3: Let’s explore! Down to Key West we go stopping at Robbie’s to feed the Tarpon, Marker 88 for lunch on the water and Sister Noodle for the best Pho soup in all of Key West. Day 4: Deep sea fishing in Key West is amazing. Any one of the carters can get you on fish without trouble. Yes…. I LOVE to fish! Then you bring your catch to Dante’s or Conch Seafood Republic so they can clean and cook it for you. For desert must go to Better Than Sex. You can probably break those 4 days down into a week!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

Building community and a support system is a lot of what Seizing Happy is about. We host networking events, workshops, and gatherings to connect women entrepreneurs with each other. We are all about collaboration over competition. Through these events I’ve met incredible ladies like Sandy Fernandez, Financial Advisor and Founder of Karmic Currency, Lauren Marsicano, attorney and Founder of Women 4 Success (501c3), Gelsandra Guzman, Founder of Posh Palma Styles. There are so many others I could go on for days!
