We had the good fortune of connecting with Gil Breef and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gil, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In 2002, my brother and I started our first window treatment company in NYC. At the time, the product manufacturers were limited; and since the technology was quite new, not many companies offered motorized window treatments. We realized there was a gap in the market.

Our company catered to very high-end clientele and we took on projects that intimidated most small competitors. Our niche was to offer custom solutions and home automation integration. This vision allowed us to expand our business and today we are considered pioneers in the retail motorized window treatment industry.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Shades By Design is my passion. Collaborating with my clients and helping make their vision a reality is very fulfilling. Through teamwork and clear communication, my team and I are able to manage over 100 projects at any give time. I believe innovation and research is key to running a successful business. Staying up to date, open minded, and nimble about new trends combined with utilizing the latest technologies is how Shades By Design continues to be a driving force in the industry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
South Florida is blessed with amazing weather and a beautiful landscape. I love nature and boating so the first thing I would suggest is a boat tour of the canals and bays. This is the best introduction to South Florida’s lifestyle and beauty. Fishing can also be a very relaxing experience for visitors. I am a big fan of the Florida Keys. Driving down to Key West and making pitstops along the way is a great experience. Also, the Everglades are a big part of South Florida. I would highly recommend an airboat tour!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my older brother and business partner, Yaniv Dahari. He taught me how to run a business, dedicate myself to a cause, work hard, and be fair. I also want to thank my managers and employees; without their support and dedication, I could not run Shades By Design and make it a success.
