We had the good fortune of connecting with Guerdy Laplante and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Guerdy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was knowing what I was getting myself into as an entrepreneur. Having talent is one thing but the business side of it can be difficult at time, I’m not perfect I’m still learning as I go. The financial part of business is very important having both parents in business was an advantage to me. I started at a young age doing my own hair and dolls hair I never thought I would have my own business at the age of 14 years old. Being a shy and not outspoken person starting a business can be intimated, not knowing a lot people I wasn’t sure how my business was going to take off. I had to put a lot work to be where I’m at right now as far promoting and making sure I perfect my craft so more people can notice my work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Me and my best friend love trying new restaurant and food, so I would’ve definitely take her downtown Miami. Since I know she love seafood I would’ve take her to our favorite seafood place, they also have great drink. We are homebody so for hangout either stay home watch tv and talk or a lounge. One of the most excited place I would love to check out would definitely be Jamaica, I love their culture and would love to have that experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This all started with my mother which is my biggest supporter when it come to doing hair. My mom started teaching me how to braid at the age of 4-5. She’s also a hairstylist, she always used to do her own hair that’s how I learned how to do my own hair as well as other. I started doing my own hair at the age of 10 and started doing other people hair at 14 year old. I didn’t learn everything on my own, along the way I had friends and family member that gave me tip on how to perfect my craft.
