We had the good fortune of connecting with Guillermo Riera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Guillermo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I noticed an uprising of recording artists and musicians moving to Miami when COVID-19 pandemic happened and as a Sound Engineer with Mechanical Engineering background, I realized the opportunity of building creative spaces for them in their new homes or commercial studios.

What should our readers know about your business?
In the business of designing and building creative spaces, what sets me apart from the others is that my goal is to understand your vision as an artist or musician. I am most proud of how I got to this country 8 years ago with zero knowledge nor even acquaintances, and I as improved my skill set and understood what the needs were, I pushed my way through and had opportunities to meet and work with Grammy and Latin Grammy winners and renown people in the music industry. As many of us know, turning your vision or craft into a business is not easy, but the way I found to overcome the challenges of an immigrant was to be very organized and serious about it, respect people and be trustworthy, overdelivering and being open to new ideas. Some lessons I learned along the way: commit to your goals and dedicate time to improve every day and you will see results, also that there is space for you and your business, you just have to put yourself out there and be flexible. I would like for everyone to know about how your dreams can come true if you really want them, but you need a plan of action and execute it, just dreaming is not enough.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the beaches of Hollywood, sometimes there are bands playing live at Margaritaville. Go for a walk or bar hopping on Wynwood, Brickell or Downtown Miami. There are lots of restaurants you can check out to try food of many different nationalities. Also, show them around places where they have beautiful houses like Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, and many other places.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Amongst all the people that have given me opportunities or taught me something valuable towards my carrer, three names come to my mind when people ask me this question. Paul Hoyle, Jhon Paul “El Increible” and Tony Succar. Thanks to them I’ve learned how an individual can accomplish many things, such as creating a business that attracts and benefits way more people than you expected. Also, they gave me their trust and presented me with opportunities to improve my craft and apply my knowledge.
