We had the good fortune of connecting with Hadassah Eley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hadassah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Capital M. E. Strategies because I saw a need to help small businesses work more efficiently. I recall sitting through meetings that were run less than productively. I saw things like working towards a goal that was not written and understood by the entire company. I observed my friends in business making the mistake of using the same old broken processes while trying to increase their rate of production; leading to ultimate crashing. It pained me, when I realized that most business owners are experts at their craft, invention, service only. Very few have had the time to also learn the process solutions needed to support a growing company that I was able to learn from the large Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I live in Raleigh, NC: the top 1-2 places to live in America! So, I’m picking you up from the airport, and the first thing we’re going to do is unwind at NorRa’s cafe. They serve coffee and wine! They next day, we will go shopping at Crabtree Valley Mall. We can end the night with some live music in the dark, smooth ambiance of Watt’s and Ward, downtown Raleigh. If you want to get your exercise on that third day, we can walk through the indoor and outdoor exhibits of the NC Museum of Art. We can also visit one of my many Zumba instructor friends for a fun class of salsa- aerobics. I rarely get to watch a movie in a movie theater, so we can venture into Cary, NC for a trip to CineBistro: it is as fancy as it sounds. For another coffee spot right outside of Raleigh, we can do Beyu Cafe in Durham. Before leaving Durham, we could indulge in Dame’s Chicken and Waffles. Do you like to Hike? Well, then we’ll do just that at the Umstead Park in Raleigh, NC. Last but not least, you can help me with my golf swing! We’re going to one of the two virtual golf spots (Drive Shack or Top Golf) OR….we can go to an actual golf club like Prestonwood (back in Cary). If we go to Prestonwood, then we have to stop by my favorite bakery, La Farm, and get my favorite sweet, sticky, bread with white chocolate and craisins. Ok, I am sure we’re tired. So, let’s relax back at my house and order food from Arepa Culture (a delicious Venezuelan spot). How was that?
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d surely like to give a shout out to Sharon Ringier of “I’m Possible Women’s Empowerment Collaborative, Inc.” I first met Sharon through a professional development program for female entrepreneurs. She was my accountability partner. Then, naturally I venture and tried her coaching intensive program. I appreciated how Sharon’s intake process made sure that our sessions were tailor-made for my specific needs. Sharon comes with a plethora of lessons-learned in the small business world: through experience or knowledge. She uses that to help you more quickly close the gap between where your business is today to where it needs to be. Why Sharon?! Because she will coach you like she really believes in you. That’s what you need when are running a business and you’re just lost and inundated with too much work.
