We had the good fortune of connecting with Haily Maki and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haily, what do you attribute your success to?
I feel like the most important factor in my brand is staying true to our Mission Statement, “Women Ran, Women Led, Women Owned”. When deciding what my mission was when I started my brand, I wanted to make sure it resonated with young females to empower them to become their own entrepreneurs or be able to have the courage to ask for what they wanted out of a current job. I remember in my early twenties having a hard time asking for what I wanted especially at the time of an evaluation for a promotion. Our bread and butter is truly the small local women owned businesses inside of our business. It has defined who we are as a company and has given us value into the community.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
So my business started after leaving my job and quarantine hitting a few days later. I didn’t really know what direction I wanted to go with my life but always knew I was a creative and artistic type with an alpha female drive. I started Haute & Honey with $50 and a small credit card in March of 2020. I could tell you it was definitely not easy in the beginning trying to navigate how to create a website, how to get a following on our new social media platforms, how to drive sales through these platforms but with the right resources and people behind me I used that as my fuel and really grew our brand from an accessories brand to a full fledge boutique. I will say if there’s something you have in mind to try as a business, go for it! Don’t let fear and doubt discourage you from trying. You have one life to live so live it!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So when my best friend comes, I always take her to the best local spots in our area. Always Papas Raw Bar here in Lighthouse Point for an amazing lunch or dinner! I also love Beach House Pompano for the ambiance and great cocktails! You can feel the local support walking into these establishments and it makes it feel like home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So I have a few shoutouts in this bio to give. First of all thank you to Leslie Wheeler for being the first person to believe in the brand and really use her incredible resources to get it off the ground. When I first started, I had no idea what a brand book was, mission statement was or anything that defines a company. She truly made such an impact on the brand and will be eternally grateful. I also wanted to give a massive shoutout to my wonderful husband. Not only has he been the interior designer and the events manager for the business, but literally part of the heart and soul that has gotten us here. I could have never been so successful if it wasn’t for his encouragement and support.
