We had the good fortune of connecting with HARJOT MANN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi HARJOT, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Life is an adventure filled with risks for us to take. Business is the same.

Every day we take risks when we get into our cars, hop on planes, go on dates, pitch ourselves to get something, find someone, or get somewhere we desire to go. There is never an upfront guarantee that we will reach our destination. So many things could go wrong, and yet we take those risks.

Even in business, we take risks by putting our ideas out there, putting our vision out there to unfold, and creating big things. The risks we take (and don’t take) can reveal a lot, like what are our true intentions and desires in life or business.

For me, taking risks is an opportunity to expand forward, define myself, and cultivate more self-trust. It’s also an act of devotion to my vision, my values, and the impact I am here to make.

A life situation or a business situation might not guarantee me the outcome I want, but I know I can reliably create trust and safety within myself to walk the path towards that outcome. For me, who I am willing to become is more important than the outcome.

Even in uncertainty, I find joy in knowing that I am willing to be the person who can follow through and figure out a way forward. That is the most exciting way to do life and business.

At times my risks have been saying yes to things that felt scary. For example, it’s when I left clinical medicine as a trainee psychiatrist to jump full-time into entrepreneurship and coaching. At times, it’s been saying no to opportunities with money and exposure because I knew something didn’t align about that opportunity with my values.

Both times, I was at peace with who I became.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I have multiple layers to me and my story. I was born in Punjab, Northern India. I immigrated to Canada with my family at 14. As an immigrant coming from a country that was colonized for 100 years, I had deep social conditioning that I have to self-sacrifice, prove my worth and work super hard to be successful. Learning that this is not true has been a big lesson for me in entrepreneurship

I am also a physician turned Leadership Coach, Mindset & Business Mentor to soul-driven CEOs. I work with coaches and other service-based entrepreneurs who are driven by their soul purpose to help others but also by their peace. They want to build a soul-led, impact-driven, and prosperous business in ways that do not lead to emotional overwhelm or burnout.

I’ve always been a dreamer. I still am. It was my childhood dream to become a doctor and when that dream finally solidified instead of feeling ecstatic, I felt miserable. I went into an inner panic – what I call a soul-level burnout. I working as a psychiatrist (which was supposed to be my dream job) but something deep within knew I am meant to bring my purpose in a way that doesn’t threaten my peace. The lifestyle of medicine didn’t align with my mind, body, or soul. So I made the tough decision to jump into entrepreneurship and become a full-time coach.

I wouldn’t say it was “easy” in the sense that there were many challenges to overcome like fear of failure, losing a guaranteed income, uncertainty, being seen, and judgments about leaving a highly regarded career. But for me being at peace is the ultimate success. I knew that I meant to work for myself, make my own rules, and serve others through my combined wisdom of science and spirituality.

Overcoming challenges is basically, being willing to deal with the emotional tidal wave that comes with every up-level. You get masterful with time, but you always feel the stretch in your mind and body physiology.

But ultimately, it’s become easier and easier for me to listen to my inner wisdom and follow its lead. This isn’t without fear or very emotionally intense human moments. But the level of self-trust that gets built kind of makes you feel unstoppable.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that as long as I am willing to trust myself, trust that there is a Higher Power working with me at all times, everything thing will always work out for me. That and also, you have to be willing to show up and take space. No one can believe in you for you. You have to believe in yourself and your work. Everything in life is a practice. You get better at things at the time and there is never really a final destination to reach in being good at personal life or at business. It’s a practice. The more you do something, the more masterful you become.

I want everyone reading this to know that you have what it takes. If you can imagine having something, know that you can have it. If you want to succeed in business or in life, make it your number one priority to understand who you are. To own your fullness. To express it and never feel limited by it. Cultivate inner trust. Make room to feel all your emotions, and never ignore your feelings. It’s through your toughest emotions you find your inner genius.

As a coach, this is what I teach clients. To do life and business being their fullest expression of self. To do it with their own rules. To prioritize their peace. To bring the energy of play and prosperity into everything. Do that, and it will return back to you multiplied!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am all about creating intimate and empowering experiences and those can be created anywhere. I’d book us a nice place somewhere in nature, not too far from the city, but close to the mountains or the beach. There would be great food (ordered in or cooked at home). We’d sit around a fire in the evening, or go for walks on the beach, and talk about life, imagine the possibilities and talk about our big audacious goals.

There would be a spa day to get massages, be pampered, and eat delicious soul-filling food.

There would be world-class coffee.

I focus less on the shiny objects and more on the quality time in good company, experiencing good service, food, nature, and conversations.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love this beautiful question. I am the sum product of my relationships, experiences, wisdom, and support I have received from books, people, and experiences. It’s hard to sum it up in one question but there are 4 people ( my soul team members) who I like to shout out daily for being in my corner: My brave mom, my powerhouse husband, my big-hearted dad, and my compassionate mother in law.

These 4 humans have shown me what it means to be loved and supported, to love and support, and how relationships are my biggest assets in life.

They have carried me and stood by me at my worst. They have cheered for me at my best. I love them so very much.
