We had the good fortune of connecting with Harolyn Scott RN, BSN, CCM, CLNC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Harolyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I chose to become a legal nurse consultant in order to expand my role as a Registered Nurse and capitalize on the years of clinical experience, knowledge and skills I have acquired.  I have always wanted to work for myself to achieve financial freedom and becoming a legal nurse consultant has created this opportunity.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant, I help attorneys make sense out of the senseless by analyzing and interpreting complex medical records. I find the facts that tell the story. I offer guidance, support, and education to attorneys and their clients on medical and nursing issues in plaintiff and defense cases, locate expert witnesses, and assist with depositions, trial preparation, settlement, and arbitration. I have been a Registered Nurse since 1998 and practiced in a variety of settings such as Labor & Delivery, Case Management, Utilization Review, and Managed Long-Term Care. My unique clinical skill set gives me a wide perspective on how to approach medical-legal issues. Being a Registered Nurse has been rewarding despite the many challenges that I have experienced. It can be physically, mentally and emotionally demanding. Burnout is real and self-care is as necessary as oxygen and water. This profession is not for the faint of heart. But if you have a BIG heart and an inquisitive, open mind you can not only impact others’ lives but also your own.
I want the world to know that the noble profession of nursing offers many avenues for career success and personal development. There are so many nursing specialties and paths one can take to find fulfillment, make a difference and earn a living. At the end of the day, we bring who we are to the work that we do in the world. The desire to help, heal and teach drives my passion for being a nurse.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many places to wine, dine and have fun in South Florida! I have a list that I am continually adding to.
