We had the good fortune of connecting with Hervé Damas Damas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hervé Damas, how does your business help the community?
I am in the cannabis industry. Including Hemp, it is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States. The economic impact of cannabis and Hemp is slated to be above $35 billion dollars by 2025 according to some estimates. Products made from cannabis and hemp impact a number of markets including consumer goods, entertainment, manufacturing, textiles and my niche- medicine. The medicinal value of cannabis has led to a majority of states in America having some sort of legalization program. Research has shown that cannabinoids can provide treatment for a number of ailments ranging from minor aches and pains, anxiety, epilepsy to neuropathy and side effects from treatment for cancer and HIV AIDS.

The societal impacts of cannabis legalization are also reflected in decreased crime, overdoses, domestic violence and consumption of drugs and alcohol in jurisdictions where it is legalized.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a physician who specializes in helping people find alternatives to synthetic drugs by use of cannabis and CBD. I came upon this path as a result of some personal challenges from my short professional football career and my mother’s battle with breast cancer. These experiences (the latter leading me to go to medical school) pushed me to where I am. My inability to find treatment for some of my personal health issues through traditional methods despite having access to all the “best” health care led me to taking a chance on cannabis despite my reservations and skepticism.

Having found a solution for my ailments in a place that I did not believe was possible led me to investigating how this was possible. I do what do to give people an option, a bit of hope from a person and place they can trust.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d definitely like to shout out my High School, Brooklyn Technical High School- the greatest High School in America! It was a place that allowed me to really explore all my interests and develop them in a nurturing but very competitive environment. I learned how to become a critical thinker there, made my longest lasting friendships there and it served as the springboard for everything else I’ve done in my life. That place was a blessing for me and continues to be for many kids in New York City.
