We had the good fortune of connecting with Ianthia Ferguson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ianthia, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
It feels like I’m on a never-ending balancing beam; one that stretches for miles, with no end in sight. Being a stay-at-home-work-from-home wife and mom; a content creator, a freelance journalist, a daughter, sister, friend; balancing work, life and home takes a lot of patience and tweaking.
Over the years my balancing act has seen many upgrades, changes and kinks ironed out as I added new titles and projects and a baby to the mix. How I balance my days actually looks different everyday depending on what I have to do; but the one thing that remains a staple is ensuring that I make time to relax, to breathe, to just be.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a Bahamas-based TV anchor turned blogger who cold turkey quit my job in mainstream media to blog full-time, host TV shows and write for international publications.
The transition was by no means an easy one, especially in a country where non-traditional careers aren’t understood nor respected. For me, I knew I had goals of being a blogger and writer and creating more creative content for my audience to consume, so despite the doubts, the questions and even the insults, I just kept creating.
My passion and persistence landed me writing gigs with ESSENCE Magazine, XONecole, Forbes Travel Guide and Sheen Magazine; I’ve hosted and created TV shows locally and
Along the way I learned that it’s very important to go after your dreams, even when it makes you stick out like a sore thumb.
Today, I’m a travel and lifestyle blogger and influencer who share about my life as a mother and a wife who loves travel, fashion helping aspiring bloggers.
I’m building my digital community called LitFluential that seeks to teach budding creatives how to go from content consumer to content creator with ease and confidence. I’ve recently hosted a virtual conference and a workshop is now in the works.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So, while I am an advocate of planning out a trip, I do believe in flexibility. So I love making a list of places to see and things to do, in no particular order. Here’s what I’ll recommend!
Bakehouse – it’s the cutest little bakery that sells the most amazing, delicious cookies, donuts and treats! So YUM!
The downtown straw market – the perfect place for island inspired souvenirs and items
Wild Thyme – a super cool, chill restaurant with great food
Mahogany House – another restaurant with a delicious menu
Sun & Ice Ice Cream Parlour – a cozy spot in the Atlantis Hotel with the best ice cream, with the best island flavors
The beach – ANY BEACH ON THE ISLAND!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m big on family and I know that without them I would not be where I am. So I’d like to give a big shout out to my family for supporting my dreams, even when they didn’t understand them. My husband has also been a huge part of me being who I am.
From being my tech support, brainstorm partner, photographer, videographer and travel partner; he’s super involved in my business and ultimately the success of it.
