We had the good fortune of connecting with ignacio gana and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi ignacio, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I love risks, i love to think out of the box, each work of art that I develop is the opportunity to take one risk after another, without risks it is impossible to get out of the comfort zone, to take risks is believe in yourself, to move forward, to renew oneself, to be open to the movement of constant change the unknown is being open to being surprised. I can see around me, the constant, socially “acceptable” what works, what is already known to all, that never fails, like an artist we have to be so far from that, we are not here to give an answer, to wait for the approbation of the people, to please, more than that, we are here to make people ask themself, think again, open her eyes and make them dreams. I believe that the artist must go further, not seek complacency in the observer if or rather generate a questioning, leave a door open to imagination, leave the door open to fly and dream. Every day, every time I’m thinking maybe totally opposite of the rest of the people, I’m thinking to take risk always, to play the game, to jump into the unknown, I love that and never regret about that always is the best choice.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From an intimate posture Ignacio Gana, he stands cautiously by the American artistic context. His work is framed in a figurative style based on themes loaded with sensuality, harmony and elegance. It is inspired by the sea as a sacred and purifying space, putting in play a diversity of elements with a strong narrative load that seduces a spectator in his memory and build his own work. Beautiful figures of massive volumes in balanced poses, in which the treatment of the female figure is truly attractive. Generally represented with closed eyes, as in a reverie, they become goddesses of leisure and relaxation. Paying homage to his surname, Ignacio gains more and more space in the international art scene. His career reaches high consecrating with one of the greatest exponents of contemporary Latin American sculpture, exposing his sculptures in various international exhibitions, transforming his works into indispensable pieces in important collections and samples. His paintings and sculptures can be found in important collections and museums such as: Museum of Modern Latin American Art (MOLAA) in California; Museo Ralli Marbella, in Spain, Ralli Museum in Santiago de Chile; And Guggenheim Museum in Venice. Enchanted with the great stairs of the North American cities, the artist decides to settle in Miami, United States with the purpose of making his works reach high, not only in its dimensions, but also in its high artistic value, a short time is named as one of the 18 most influential artists within the artistic sculpture in Miami, along with being chosen as the official artist of the Latin Grammy Awards of the year 2017. Currently his career is focused on public spaces, squares and parks, as well as his works in the function of architecture. His desire: to incorporate new features that encourage interaction with the public, because for Ignacio, each of these sculptures is an invitation to be born again, to become a child, activate all the senses and enjoy every little moment. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
