We had the good fortune of connecting with Ignacio “Nacho” Riquelme and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ignacio “Nacho”, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I think is all we put on this. It’s so much you need to invest to become a good tattoo artist and people normally don’t see it. You need to put the most effort, dedication and time because it can take years to find you own style and mastering it. Also people just think our work is made only in the session, but we start working days, sometimes weeks before the appointment so we have the best design for our clients.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
First thing is I started making tattoos when i was 14 years old. i say making tattoos because there is a difference between someone who makes tattoos and a tattoo artist. I think anyone can make tattoos by just placing a stencil and trow some lines but you really need to appreciate art in your life and in your work to become a tattoo artist. Turn into one took me years of drawing, practicing, much perseverance and constancy. it wasn’t easy at the beggining becouse of my short age and many prejudices of the people. In Chile, the country where i was born and raised even today there is a lot of prejudices about tattoos in general, the culture is really different in that aspect. To overcome this i never let them words to go into my mind becouse i already knew they were just nonsense and misinformation from them, i didn’t care because i knew if i cared that would affect and not in a possitive way.
I’ve been doing this for 10 years now and even today i feel like i need to learn more and be better than yesterday, everyday.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
there is so much people i’m thankful of being with me and supporting this dream my life has turned into. To all the people who don’t know me but loves my work. A big recongnition to Miss Guadalupe, one of my art teachers in high school, to Fernando Jov & Boeden Alfoso, amaizing tattoo artists and obviously my Family and my closer Friends.
