We had the good fortune of connecting with Igor & Eka Eka Things and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Igor & Eka, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Igor: The decision to open our business did not come immediately.
My friend Eka, with whom we opened our company, has long dreamed of her own business related to ecology. She dreamed about it since childhood when the whole eco topic was not so popular.
Two years ago, she was determined to give it a try and persuaded me to create a company together.
I also liked her idea, although it was exciting to invest in a business when you do not have a cash pillow and the necessary experience in such matters.
And when we began to choose which first product to produce, we noticed that non-degradable, non-environmentally friendly products bring in much more income, but it was important for us to create, and not to produce even more garbage, and the choice was obvious even after all the comparative analyzes.
And even though now we are slowly developing, but we know that we are doing a good job, and every sale is a joy for us. After all, someone is now opening our next packet and smiling at how nice it is to be involved in the preservation of our amazing planet.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Eka: We think that the most important factor in our activity is that we try to make the highest quality product, the kind of product that you want to use yourself. We do not reduce the price of a product by degrading quality. Even when the prices for raw materials and other costs have risen recently, we did not make our bags thinner or use cheaper technologies, where the material would no longer be so environmentally friendly.
So far, our income is minimal in this case, but for us, first of all, it is important to remain true to ourselves and enjoy what we do.

Igor: At the moment, we are investing almost all of our budget in our small business, and are really looking forward to the moment when it begins to bring us not only moral satisfaction but also material income.

Eka: Yes, we understand that there are risks in any business, but if you ask how we feel about risk, we will answer like this: He who does not take risks does not drink champagne. Do you probably know where this expression came from? It came from Europe from among racers. To win – the rider must take risks. As you have probably heard, Formula 1 drivers have a tradition – the winners are bathed in a spray of champagne. So, we really want to swim in these splashes of champagne, and we are ready to take risks, work hard and invest in order for our company to flourish and bring a drop of goodness to this world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Igor: I would invite them to the Hawaiian Islands and spend at least 4 days on each island.
For instance, on the island of Oahu and Big Island, I would show active volcanoes, as well as unique black sand beaches.
I would definitely drink fresh coconut water and eat mango ice cream with my friends.

Eka:
My friend and I would leave Maui in the early morning by boat to watch whales in complete silence.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Eka: I would like to say Thank you to Grandma and Grandpa.
Since, even in early childhood, they took me to the village for summer vacations, and even then I began to feel how much cleaner the water and air outside the city.

And I began to wonder how much civilization and urban development affect our planet.

Therefore, we can say that inspiration and interest in ecology arose already at that age.

Therefore, I express my gratitude to my grandfather and grandmother, who have always focused on how good it is for health to spend holidays there.
