We had the good fortune of connecting with ilikebloo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ilikebloo, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
The thing that motivates me to keep going everyday is fun. If I don’t feel like I’m having fun with whatever is at hand I just stop. That’s the only thing that keeps the music sounding original too. Anytime I’ve gone into a creative space with outside forces weighing in on my head (money, recognition, etc) the music just sucks. The only time I’m able to make something I enjoy is when I’m having fun. Because of that, I try to treat every aspect of my life the same exact way. When I wake up, the first thing I think about is how to have the most fun. As long as I feel giddy about whatever I’m doing, I won’t even think about giving up.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My older brother and a family friend got me to rap for the first time when I was about 12. We went to a theme park and someone suggested that we “freestyle” rap. I had no idea what that even meant nor did I think it was possible once it was explained to me but once I started it felt pretty natural. I started playing shows with a local Miami band (Foom!) when I was about 14 and started recording music at 16. Saying that making music I actually enjoyed was easy is more than a lie. For a long time I just didn’t really understand my sound and would try to mimic people I liked listening to. I feel like that was an important step in finding the things I liked/disliked about a song, however, I feel like learning that mimicking can only lead me to second place was a huge lesson learned.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly all I do is eat so I’m just gonna name some of my favorite spots to eat in the city. Alright, first stop we’re picking up some patties from Hammonds Bakery in the Gardens. Maybe some coffee from Versailles. Definitely hitting up Lung Yai Thai Tapas for some crispy duck and passionfruit sake. Old Greg’s pizza forsure. Got to go to Peacock ramen and Haochi at Union Beer Store for some good eats and great beer. Off Site for a chicken sandwich. El Bagel for Miami’s undisputed best bagel. USBS is my Miami burger of choice and ending the trip off at Boia De!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My producer, Zander Zel, has always and will remain to be, one of my biggest inspirations. Zander and I started making really really bad music just for kicks in his garage after band class in high school. Some years later and I still can’t see myself having more fun making bad songs with anyone else. I love that guy.
