We had the good fortune of connecting with Ingeborg Frye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ingeborg, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My favorite quote would be ” Keep your eye on the doughnut and not on the Hole”. It applies to many things in life; your career path, education, relationships, Just life in general. And as we all know , life does have a tendency to throw a few curveballs. How you deal with it guides the outcome. So, staying focussed and not become discouraged or unglued by a bump , or even a hill in the road is instrumental.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
All artists go along a path of adventure, exploring various art forms, learning from other artists, experimenting with different media and such. It’s kind of like shopping at a large grocery store and then figure out what you are going to cook with the items you bought…. As a child I learned most of the methods to the madness from my father who was an artist as well. At a young age he introduced and exposed me to the various media , techniques and ground rules. But amazingly so it yet was he who forbid me to go to artschool stating he didnt want to see me become a poor starving artist. So I waitied until later in life to pursue my childhood dream.
To me what fascinates me about art is that the sky can be the limit. Throughout my life I have practiced many art forms and eventually became fascinated with pour painting. That means NO BRUSHES! My personal objective in this is that I like to push and challenge myself in an attempt to give my pour paintings some level of structure and definition as well as recognition, where in traditional pour paintings , although potentially absolutely gorgeous, that is not always the case.
No, it was not always easy to achieve to achieve the end product I had in mind, but through perseverence and keeping the eye on that imaginary doughnut I think I was able to convey my intentions. There are many variables involved such as the consistency of the paints, the intensity of the color , the chemical make-up of a particular paint, how paints interact with each other as they blend, the temperature, the weight, gravity, timing, and so on. All those make it an interesting challenge, In respect of giving pour painting more definition I think I vary from others by an identifiable and recognizable end product.
By persevering I was able to contribute art work for a film in The Netherlands, a book cover, a children’s book , and some work for charitable organizations. I feel blessed and enjoy sharing it with the world.
Especially working with individuals who commissioned me to create a piece for them specifically, and listening in an attempt to create and convey their vision is a joy. As a former educator , to me working with people who have special needs is a privilege I always welcome and treasure.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As you can see in my artwork I am strongly drawn to the water, so any waterfront activity would be fun. Definitely a visit to one or more art musea and galleries, exhibits should be on the priority list. And of course taking in and enjoying the cultural diversity in the way of culinary , musical , and artistic forms.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In general I think the people who make me tick , inspire me, and encourage me are my family, but equally my artist friends.
