We had the good fortune of connecting with Ingrid Echeverry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ingrid, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Miami, but grew up in Cali, Colombia until I was 19 years old. After that I’ve been traveling around the world. Having a multicultural upbringing gave me the familiarity to relate to people from different backgrounds, to have the flexibility to adapt to different situations and keep empathy and passion in my work.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a photographer, having a multicultural background been helpful to connect to others and be more sensible to perceive things differently.I have worked in photography companies shooting hotels, in tv channels shooting content but always doing street photography, meeting people and following my passions.
Currently as an independent photographer I am really excited to been working with my sister Virgi Dart in some of her music videos, a field I am starting to explore and enjoy enormously. One of the lessons I learned is to go out there and try it all, explore different mediums, shoot different subject matters, change your way of doing things, some things might not work, but every experience is a an opportunity to learn and evolve.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Currently I am living in Cali Colombia. First neighborhood I would recommend to visit is San Antonio. Full of colonial houses, this bright and colorful community gives you an insight of how people in Cali centuries ago used to live. Great place to sip on some club colombia beer and our famous ‘lulada’ a tropical beverage made of lulos and ice.
A nice stroll along the cali river in the afternoon, stopping and the Obelisco’s empanadas is a must. Lastly but not least salsa dance your night away at the famous Tin Tin Tin Deo, after all Cali is the capital of salsa.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my family that encouraged me to pursue my dreams, to live without fear of the unknown, follow my passion and curiosity. To every Wong Kar Wai film I watched in film school that sparked my passion to live abroad and explore the world.
