Meet Irina Anton | Artist: Singer, Songwriter & above all, human.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Irina Anton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Irina, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I breathe music, I feel music, I AM music. Ever since childhood, I fell in love with singing and listening to music. I remember fondly the precious moments spent when I was about 5 years old, playing on my parents’ old CD player the biggest hits from artists such as ABBA, La Bouche, Modern Talking, SNAP!, Ace of Base, so I grew up with an infinite love for retro music, dancing and humming through the entire house, until I ended up recording at the same CD player the first lyrics written by me.
That’s how I realized this is the path I want to follow in life and this is what makes me feel happy and complete.
There’s no other stronger passion for me than the one I have for music.
From the age of 7, I managed to perform in this field by obtaining my first important prize at a local kids music festival.
Things came natural and my journey continued with 7 years full of joy and experiences I had as a member of the Meloritm Choir from the National Palace of Children in Bucharest. Meloritm played a very important role in my artistic career and personal development, as this experience allowed me to create the most beautiful memories, participating in countless national and international music festivals, TV shows and live performances with a large audience.
When I was 15 I graduated the Popular School of Arts, which contributed in the improvement of my vocal technique and my stage performance as a solo artist.
In order to take my talent to the next level, I also attended vocal coaching classes at Dorian’s Art Music Academy in Bucharest, under the guidance of the expert Dana Dorian, who is also a vocal coach for the contestants at the famous talent show “The Voice of Romania”.
My main goal is for my art to be able to convey the deepest emotions and thoughts and I hope as many of you will find yourselves in my music, because I think there is no bigger satisfaction than knowing you managed to help the others through your creation.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love to express myself through my music and what’s the most important for me is to always tell a story with every song I release. Somehow, all my songs have a special meaning and each of them is perfectly set into a certain stage of my life. I want to stay true to myself and my principles and I will never stop believing that I really CAN bring that full package of talent, voice, attitude, style and emotion with a twist of nostalgia, while keeping my softness and inocence, even though I must admit that this world might require a bit of roughness too.
The biggest challenge I had to overcome was getting out of the impasse I’ve been through after finishing highschool, when I felt like I was not enough and I thought this road might not be for me. We all know that during that stage in our lives we tend to be more fragile and emotional, but luckily there comes that moment when we are all going through a phase of growth and self-improvement, like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. That’s when we learn the biggest lesson, in my opinion: to always listen to our hearts, not to what people say.
I also think it’s all about the right timing and this is what happened in my case – the right person at the right time. This happened in late 2019, when I met my actual manager which is also my mentor, who always supported me and helped me get in touch with various songwriters, music producers, video directors, managers and last but not least, who helped me and my music get heard.
Until now, I managed to release 4 singles – “Nostalgie”, “Sound of Rain”, “Falling into You” and “Amintirea Ta”, and I really hope you’ll enjoy them, ’cause I’d be really happy to have your feedback on them.
My passion for music is also one of the reasons why I chose to write my dissertation thesis on the topic of branding in the pop music industry, an approach which helped me realize which are my strenghts and weaknesses, in order to create an image as authentic as possible for the Romanian pop music market.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As Bucharest is my lovely hometown, I would definitely suggest taking a walk on Victory Avenue, a place where you can find a lot of interesting spots, as well as great restaurants and coffee shops. The perfect way of starting the day would be by having a brunch at Mara Mura, a very girly and sweet pastry shop located right behind the Romanian Athenaeum. You could take some lovely pictures in the area and continue with a visit to the National Museum of Art, while admiring the outstanding architecture of the Royal Palace.
Of course you couldn’t miss exploring key spots such as the Palace of Parliament, which is the heaviest building in the world and the second largest administrative building, the Old Town and its architectural treasures, the Romanian History Museum, the CEC Palace, the Romanian Peasant Museum, the Cotroceni Palace, The Herastrau Park and last but not least, the Primaverii Palace, the former residence of Romanian president Nicolae Ceausescu.
I would recommend trying out the following places to eat and drink – NOR – for an impressive view over Bucharest, Animaletto Pizza Bar – if you want to enjoy a delicious pizza right in the heart of the city, Ceainaria Infinitea – for an immersive experience in the world of tea, matched by a fairytale setting, The Great Hill – for an exquisite wine tasting experience, Robescu 14 – in order to explore their magic realm of potions, Osho – if you are in the mood for a delightful steak, and Taqueria el Torito – if you want to have a taste of “amor a la mexicana”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am what I am today thanks to the people who guided me and encouraged me to follow my dream. There are a lot of people who are close to my heart and they definitely deserve a shoutout, because they supported me in not giving up on what I love the most: music. From the very first person who always believed in me, my mom, to my kindergarten teacher, my primary school music teacher and my actual manager, all of them had their input in my development, both professionaly and personally. I will always be grateful to my mentor Dana Dorian, who really helped me become a better version of myself. Thanks to her expertise and valuable advice, from the shy and fearful little girl, I turned into the confident, brave and strong woman I am today and even though there were a lot of moments when I felt like giving up, I am really glad I found the wisdom to come back to my passion, no matter how many barriers I encountered in the past few years.
