We had the good fortune of connecting with Iris Abreu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Iris, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
Wow. I have to sit on this question because sometimes as a parent I question which impact encountered will my kids take with them through their own life experiences. My oldest child is 18. And the youngest are 4 and 3. When I ask my oldest, what impact has he felt I have left on him he says being disciplined, understanding the value of hard work, being respectful and cleaning. Lol, that’ last one is kind of an inside joke. We are Puerto Rican; cleaning home is mandatory lol! But maybe as a parent one of the most impact things I feel I have done and continue to do is try to be present. A huge emphasis on trying. Simply because there is so much going on in my own little head at times. But I’ve learned, with experience when the moment presents themselves and you hear the kids calling you and saying “mom look” just look over to them. Be present. That’s all the impact a child needs.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Proud to not have given up when there were so many times I wanted to throw in the towel. Not that I give up easily, but my husband always says I see the end result, not the work it takes to get there, and honestly, he is absolutely right. I know what I’m capable of. So sometimes when that vision takes longer to become a reality I tend to shut down. But I have learned, the love and continuous drive to perfect my craft is honestly unmatched and that keeps me going. And also, the fact that I don’t want to disappoint my husband. That man is such a believer of who I am as well, that disappointing him, or my kids is not an option. My brand is my story. To inspire confidence, self-love and healing in all ways possible and through lashing. Beauty goes beyond surface level, but feeling and looking beautiful adds the fuel we might just need to get us started.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am such a foodie and views type of gal. Pietro’s on the River in Jenson Beach is 10/10 for the chef’s special regardless of the occasion. Jetty Park in Fort Pierce has the most beautiful ocean views. Super Taqueria in Fort Pierce has the best tacos. That Crepe Place in Port St. Lucie has the best Coquito Latte. These would be places I’d visit and hang out when friends or family come in town.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Family and my closest friends have all played such a key part of my story. Many during different seasons and for many different reasons. To them I will forever be indebted to and grateful for.
My husband Johnathan, my kids Daniel, Sincere and Liv are a huge moving factor of where I am today.
But most importantly my son Daniel deserves the recognition in my story. He has a lot to do with who I am as a woman. I had him at 16. I was a baby raising a baby. But everything I did from the day I had him was for him. For him to be able to live out a life I was never really given. For him to be given the opportunities that will build solid foundations to his own future which would then in return allow him to grow into being a man of honor for his family and sibling. So, he can be the prime example of what his brother and sister need growing up. As cliche as it sounds. He will always be my reason.
