We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaiah Dumercy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaiah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was quite simple actually since I was young I always wanted to be creative so I tried a lot of mediums to get there but unexpectedly I found Photography as that medium. I was always able to come up with creative ideas but struggled with executing them until I started creating digital content. so then at the age of 17, I made the decision to create my business called “Focal Productions” which at the time it was supposed to be a photography company until I discover videography and graphic design which influenced me to change my company into a production company.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The vision of my business is pretty simple, I want to be the match made in heaven, I want every client, business, and brand to feel as if my company now only understood but delivered on the vision/idea that they wanted to bring to life. I think what sets me apart from others is my passion for ensuring that everyone who hires me feels as if their business is going to produce more than what they had before connecting with me. I personally want to be that step that takes everyone into their prime.
What I’m most proud of or excited about is my ability to grow. I feel like every day I get better and better at what I fell in love with and it feels like I discover a new world or passion every day, which is very exciting and a luxury that I don’t take for granted.
I got to where I am today by taking a series of bold steps, the first one is starting a photography company with no camera experience from taking pictures at my church as a concert photographer. After starting up my Instagram page, a leader at my church was nice enough to lend me her camera and I used that camera for the first year and a half to just walk around my neighborhood and take photos of anything and everything I saw. Eventually, I started taking pictures of my friends for their clothing brand and our senior prom.
Some lesson that I’ve learned along the way is that no one can fulfill your purpose for you besides yourself. In other words, no one could be a better you besides you, and volume(the number of likes or follows you get) doesn’t measure value (the quality of your work).
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is we’re all about making what seemed impossible possible. I very so much joy in making someone’s vision come into reality.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
alright so for day 1, we do something pretty chill like grabbing ice cream and walking around the city (enjoying the view). Day 2, we’d go out to the beach and go jet skiing, then lunch, and then probably some sightseeing on a boat ride at night. Day3, we would visit different museums and exhibitions to get an idea of the different talented artists within the city. On day 4, I’d probably take them to an arcade to compete in a little friendly competition. On day 5, I’d go horseback riding. Day 6 and 7, I would do some at-home activities (movie and Game night) to recap the week with my friend and also spend some quality time with them before they leave. As for foods: probably try out multiple burger & Wing spots. The most exciting people are nightlife people.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well for starters, all glory goes to God himself, through every hard time, he always supplies or reminds me of what he has placed inside of me or around me to succeed in the purpose that he has given me. Also Honestly, I’ve received support from a whole village starting from where I learned to use a camera professionally that being at my church where my ministry leader took the time to show me all the foundational pieces that I would need to become the person I am. Secondly, my thought process and advanced thinking came from the support and mentorship of my very wise friends over at the Mr.Nolds Organization. Lastly, I can’t and will never forget the support from my girlfriend and family that consistently support and remind me of the vision/dream that I have ahead of me while also positioning myself in places that I once thought were impossible.
