We had the good fortune of connecting with Ixamar Palumbo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ixamar, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I realized early on in my career that I most definitely did not possess a Type A personality; I took on multiple projects at the same time, loved leaving things for the last minute, and found a curious fascination for testing how far I could push myself professionally while still enjoying my life stress-free. I was a chill workaholic. My clients would receive all their deliverables on time even though I could have expedited my processes by not procrastinating. On the bright side, this taught me to enjoy the overall flow of things. I had to teach myself organizational skills in order to continue my “professionally laid back” approach. It was all part of a balance that has helped me manage four businesses and one 9-5 effortlessly for the past 10 years. The point of entrepreneurship is to have fun no matter how chaotic things may seem. In the end, it’s your baby…and that’s the most rewarding part of all.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always found peace and sanity behind the lens. In 2009, I launched my Wedding and Lifestyle Photography business, Ixamar Palumbo Photography, working with couples and families to captures their memories throughout the years. When I’m not shooting, I have a cool day job working as the Senior Social Media & Digital Specialist for the Latin GRAMMY Awards (yes, it’s a year-round gig). My life since 2009 has revolved around attracting online audiences through engaging visuals and storytelling. With The Wandertog, I wanted to create a brand that not only brought people together with their love for food and travel but also a brand that made it its mission to help businesses around the world boost their online presence and quality through my reach.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami is a plethora of colors, smells, and moods. This city has brought me so much joy and everyone that visits ends up falling in love & wanting more. My ideal itinerary around Miami would take you beyond the typical areas people have known to love. I’d want to take you to the mom and pop shops in Kendall, do a history tour around the oldest parts of our city in Coral Gables, visit the vineyards in Homestead, and hit up a brunch spot in Doral. Miami is so much more than what it seems and the city just keeps growing day by day.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this shoutout to the woman that nurtured and motivated my independence and goal-driven personality…my mother. I am the product of a hard working immigrant, single mother of two, who taught me to never settle & never undervalue myself or my talent. Gracias mami!
