We had the good fortune of connecting with J.P. DiMisa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi J.P., is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
While I hate to admit it, much of designing and building these amazing homes is boring paperwork, dull bookkeeping, and budget work. The amount of paperwork we generate on each project, and the document management we have to fastidiously handle as the builder is beyond excessive. Even with high-tech software and project management apps that we use, we still have mountains of good, old fashioned paper. We could fill a regular sized office with just the architectural plans, engineering plans, and interior design drawings (just to name a few) from the projects we do.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the Principal Owner of a luxury homebuilding and design firm based in Boca Raton, FL. I got my start in this business at a multi-family real estate development company. We were doing fairly big projects at the time. So, I went out and studied for my General Contractor’s license. At first it was solely for credibility when sitting down in the big, fancy conference rooms of the world. And also, so I could qualify our firm’s construction arm. But when the real estate market went belly-up around 2006, I tapped into that license and started focusing primarily on one-off, custom homes with architectural significance. It became so much more personal than developing townhomes or apartments. It’s become a true passion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’re lucky because we have so many different areas in close proximity to one another and each one is a totally different experience. I would definitely do an adventure down to Miami. I would try and show my visitor the tip of Key Biscayne, all the way up and through Miami Beach. Honestly, even if we didn’t have time to get out of the car, the whole experience is amazing. Miami truly is a unique spot on the map. The cultural diversity, the amazing architecture, and it’s view’s of water almost everywhere you look is mezmorizing. I would then plan a trip northbound, stopping off in Delray Beach, and working our way up to Jupiter. I would make Guanabanas waterfront restaurant & bar in Jupiter our final stop. We’d enjoy a few cold ones, and then I would send my visitor off to PBI. There’s no easier airport to fly in and out of then Palm Beach International.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This answer kind of applies to a whole group of people. I have always felt that there’s no such thing as self-made. So, the “Shoutout” goes to all the folks  that I have worked with, been challenged by, won with, or lost with. Everyone of these people has provided me with a learning experience. The hardest things to accomoplish are the ones you learn the most from. The easy ones don’t teach as well. And lastly, I would “Shoutout” those who provided new opportunities to me along the way. Those folks are the ones who “make” a man.
