We had the good fortune of connecting with J.P. Kauer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J.P., we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In the business that I’m in there is tremendous risk as a comedian. Especially in this environment of jokes being taken seriously and not understanding ones perspective
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love comedy always have! But comedy is hard and there really is no end to it! That’s what fascinates me about it. I’m no where near where I want to be at it. And that’s the challenge. You also grow with every time you’re on stage. No matter if you “killed” or “bombed”! The biggest fear was going on stage when I first went up which was horrible. But at the same time fell in love with it. My goal is to make as many people I can make laugh! And doing that equals success to me!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well living in Miami is great, the different cultures alone sets it apart. So much to do here where to begin? Maybe start with Cafe Versailles for some croquettes and cafecito and end up at Orilla’s in South Beach for dinner. Activities would go to the beach, explore the Everglades and see so many beautiful landmarks that South Florida has to offer.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people along the way have encouraged me to become a comedian. But the one group that stands above all was the letter carriers I’ve trained. I used to teach all the new carrier’s how to be letter carriers. The students would always say “You’re so funny, JP!” If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be pursuing this career in comedy!
