We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaclyn Milford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaclyn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

I started Women of Wall Street because I wanted to make a difference.

Women of Wall Street has at its core always been a movement. The brand was originally imagined to defy stereotypes, challenge norms and create space for individuality in replacement of uniformity that executive culture had required of women for so long. Times are changing, and it takes brands like ours and so many others to continue to push the narrative and build strong support systems between powerful women, while understanding the basic needs for community.

It felt like a natural beginning, for Women of Wall Street to launch as a private dinner party concept. Going in to it I knew my job was to break down walls and get women to open up and trust each other. Food seemed like a good way to go about it at the time. So I invited women I knew that were c-suite executives, women working on Wall Street and a couple public figures I knew to join and break bread together. What I didn’t realize going into it was the actual level of magic that would ignite around the dinner table when women felt truly comfortable and inspired by the other women in the room. Those intimate experiences led to collaborations, friendships, business deals and the evolution of where we are now.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Women of Wall Street  focuses mainly on development, from a marketing, PR and  alliance stand-point. Behind the scenes women have access to branding, design, speaker opportunities and publishing, as well as our community and events. Our broad vision is to create an eco-system that grows and builds together, but at the heart of who we are our work goes way beyond business professions and accolades. We believe that we can be a platform to encourage more women to  embrace their voice and share their stories proudly.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Myself, I’m really in to hidden gems. I love venturing somewhere off the beaten path, eccentric and full of charm. If I had a friend visiting town I would first see if there’s anything extra special happening. Florida is full of concerts and events so that’s my first go to. Some of my favorite spots are the basement in Dolce Italian on Collins, for live funk or jazz music and craft cocktails. I also love visiting Wynwood Walls and wandering around from place to place but usually I start at Joeys for their Espresso Martinis.  If you leave it to me I’ll take you to a local watering hole where no one’s watching us and it’s just full of great energy and fun people, but Dante’s Hi Fi is definitely on the list. You also can’t forget to visit a rooftop in Miami like the One Hotel or Sugar at East Hotel for a great view of the city at sunset.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

There’s so many people and moments that have made a huge impact along the way for me, but the most truthful response to this is, if I didn’t get up every day and feel worthy of my pursuits regardless of circumstance, support, or praise I might not have had the discipline to continue. I think it’s important for us to give a shout out to the person in the mirror for showing up for ourselves, rain or shine.
