We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaclyn Renee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaclyn Renee, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I grew up with a family that valued work as life. All talk was centered around what you did for work, if you were making money and how hard you’d been working. I watched a lot of my family work themselves into sickness. That stuck with me for a long time and played a story over and over that if I work too hard, “I will get sick.” That stunted the growth of my company for a very long time because I had never been taught systems of how to work smarter not harder. After the first 2 years of launching Jaclyn Renee wellness, I hit burn out. Then I got to say to myself, see, I told you so. Once I started to learn the systems and got with the right business coach, I was able to find balance. I could describe balance to me in 3 ways; being able to have time to take care of myself, being able to do something that brings me joy and being able to do something for humanity that makes me money/ After 7 years of running my company, I have checked ultimate balance and I can work smarter making the money I want WITHOUT burning out or lack of happiness.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve had a lifelong journey with chronic illness. When I was in the depths of it dealing with crippling anxiety and life-altering gut issues, I felt extremely alone. I prayed to God every day to help me find a way out and if He did, I would figure out a way to help other humans get help and find community too. It was on those dark days that I would journal what it would look like to create this business that could change someones life like it did for me. Once I stared building my business quickly learned that there are so many moving parts. My schooling taught me to be a holistic health Coach, not a business owner. So alongside helping people I really had to figure out what it took to create a sustainable business too. It feels like tat took about 3 years. Right around that time was when things started to take off. You really have to have full faith in your mission and trust the path and not take your foot off the peddle when things don’t go easy right away. There were a few small lessons, like hitting burn out a few times or getting detoured, and some big lessons, like investing in the wrong coach and losing that money, but I wouldn’t change any of it because of those lessons got me to where I am today. I truly believe I am living my Ikigui; I love it, the world needs it, I’m great at it and I get paid for it, and I think that shines through in my brand. I care deeply about my clients success because I’ve been in their shoes. I want them to feel like that have a space to share authentically, vulnerably and have a community of support as they move through chronic gut illness into relief. Eventually, I want to run large summits and workshops to bring this community together in person and rich far more people than I ever imagined.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Miami. I love the vibe, the smell of the ocean, the way that I feel when I’m there. I have my favorite go-tos that I always have to hit when I’m in town. For brunch or casual food I go to Pura Vida. For dinner I love Mila! My favorite hotel to hang out at it the Miami Edition.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My fifth grade teacher, who’s name will remain anonymous, who told me I was acting like a hussy and to get my shit together.
Dr Ellen Kahn, ND my first Naturopathic Doctor that saved my life and helped me uncover the root cause of my chronic illness. Without her guidance and support I probably wouldn’t be here.
Sara Loureiro, my business coach who taught me about running my business with feminine and masculine balance and creating systems so I could release the storer of being sick if I worked too hard.
Anne Beauvais, my life coach after my divorce who single handedly changed my view on expectations and communication and made me the coach I am today.
The books and teachings of Stephan Labossiere, Jakal El-Malik and Jake Woodard who taught me to heal from within and be able to trust the masculine again. They have been a strong grounded masculine presence in my life that helped me realize my worth and strengthen my relations with God.
My mom, who passed February 8th, 2022. I honestly didn’t know how much she taught me until she passed but the biggest lesson I understand now was to slow down and enjoy life, She filled a room with joy and didn’t let things bother her beyond the moment. I aspire to be more and more like that every day.
