We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Journey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacqueline, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success has been defining and developing my individual Impact. The mindset, communication skills and authentic execution of it are imperative to my personal brand. Finding the confidence, courage and standards (personally and professionally) that make me who I am comprise the foundation of all I do. It took me years to understand that I wasn’t aligned with what I was meant to be doing. That I had a choice, and that I did have everything I needed to take that leap into the unknown and just go for it. I defined my Impact and accepted that all success requires a risk of failure. You have to embrace the wins and losses. It’s definitely been challenging at times, but the rewards have been more fulfilling than I could have ever dreamed. I feel so aligned with myself and my brand. I’ve never been happier and I’ve never looked back.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Earlier in my career, I helped to build three 24 hour entertainment based networks, the last of which was a partnership with Time Warner where I was Executive Producer and Vice President. I also hosted one of our most popular TV series and hired and trained all of our on air talent. I still remember the moment I felt like I was out of alignment there. I was incredibly grateful for all of the opportunities I had had, but I knew I needed something else. I felt like I was living someone else’s life. I am most proud of the risk I took leaving that life and the security of a paycheck to follow a dream. It was so hard, so many obstacles, sleepless nights and uncertainty. I stayed the course though and didn’t give up. I started by creating a list of all the qualities and traits some of the extraordinary people I’d met and worked with over the years had in common…Oscar winners, Grammy winners, billionaires and the like. I created the list and started to follow it. Everything changed. I made the movie I had always dreamed of, we even screened in Cannes! I started my own company, authored my first book “The Diva’s in the Details: The Celebrity & CEO Inspired Guide to Confidence, Courage & Style” (based on my list) and just this year I hosted a produced a lifestyle TV series that aired on one of the Discovery channels. We’re now working on season 2! I also have a second series in the works for another network. One of the most unexpected results is the reaction to my book. So many people have come to my events and signings with stories of how my book has helped inspire or motivate them in some way to overcome a challenge or find direction and hope. I have been completely blown away by it. It is more rewarding than anything else I have ever done. Having an Impact on other’s lives is truly making a difference and it’s an incredible feeling. I have been so inspired by it that I have begun coaching people again. This time not on air professionals, but ordinary people & professionals who want to learn how to effectively communicate, connect and convert. Anonymity is dead- we are all being called upon to be the face of our career or business/brand, whether it’s on zoom, on camera or in the room. There is so much noise out there now, it is not enough to just look good and not fumble over your words (still important of course) but there’s so much more to it. I am helping people define and embrace their own individual Impact and viscerally connect. It’s a game changer for them and absolutely amazing.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami is such a gorgeous city, so diverse and so much to offer. I wish they could stay longer than just a week! One of my favorite things to do is brunch (or drinks, or dinner, pretty much anything!) at the Setai. I love the ambience, the decor, the people are so friendly. I just love it there. Next on the agenda would have to be The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. A beautiful estate with acres of gorgeous gardens, a rich history and some really great programs for students. Other spots include The Design District (inspiring and a selfie-rich environment), The Institute of Contemporary Art, Suviche for excellent Peruvian/Japanese fusion food, a tour of Lincoln Road & Ocean of all the great Art Deco architecture and the W Hotel (& Mr Chow) Lastly, it’s got to be Terras. In the heart of Little Havana Terras is a rooftop bar and restaurant with spectacular views of the Miami Skyline and a South American/Caribbean inspired menu. I’ve never been, but have heard amazing things and love to try new places.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I feel incredibly blessed to have had so much inspiration, love and support on my journey thus far. I had the example of my mother, who was a pioneer in radio & television back when there were very few women in the industry. I grew up knowing that my gender did not need to define my passions or my profession. I only now fully understand what a gift that truly is. I am very grateful for my husband, who has been supportive of each and every one of my (almost always) crazy ideas. Also, for my small, close-knit group of extraordinary friends, some of whom I’ve known for more than 30 years. We are ride or die. We have each other’s backs, we tell each other the truth and we are always there to support one another. This is priceless, worth more than any financial success could ever be. We are each other’s witnesses, fans, advisors and extended family.
