We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Journey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacqueline, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks transformed my life. When I was younger, I was very averse to certain risks, and I know now that it held me back from pursuing some of the things I wanted most in life. As I got a bit older, I learned there is no success without the risk of failure, and it changed everything. I began to acknowledge and recognize that so many of the people I admired had failed multiple times before they achieved what it was that they wanted. It’s truly not how many times you get knocked down, it’s how many times you get back up.
When I forced myself to become comfortable taking risks and accepted that there would be failures along the way, it quieted that crippling fear of not being perfect, not making a mistake. I began to learn from the losses instead and truly accept that they were part of the process. It changed my life. So much so that I wrote about it in my book, “The Diva’s in the Details, the Celebrity & CEO Inspired Guide to Confidence, Courage & Style.” Without this acceptance of risk, I never would have started my own production company, made a movie, produced and hosted my “Passport to the Palm Beaches” luxury & lifestyle tv series (Season 3 begins airing nationally on Destination America this July and all previous episodes are on demand at thePalmBeaches.tv), written a book or launched my own clean skincare elixir, Youth Potion N°9.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Working in television and in film, I’ve always been really choosy about what I put on my skin. I spent thousands and thousands of dollars on the best skincare money could buy. I used a daily prescription for my rosacea and I thought I had it all figured out. Then one day – boom – something terrible happened…my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. It turned our lives completely upside down. Daily radiation, chemo, it was a nightmare, but we were so blessed, he made it. Then just when things started to get back to normal again, I was diagnosed with cancer. We were devastated. Thank God I caught mine really early, but as a result of this scary diagnosis and all we’d been through with my husband, I started questioning everything I put in and on my body. I was horrified to find out my prescription rosacea cream had the potential to cause cancer with repeated use-this was something I was applying to my face every single day, sometimes twice a day. If my doctor would prescribe this to me after a cancer diagnosis, I started wondering what was in my over the counter skincare.
I began researching skincare ingredients. Unbelievably, I found most of the luxury, spare no expense, products I had been using had a bunch of ingredients I didn’t want anywhere near my skin. I had trusted these brands (along with my dermatologist) and I felt completely betrayed. I set out to find clean skincare products that included all the luxury ingredients I knew were truly effective without any of the sketchy one’s I wasn’t going to tolerate anymore… and it had to be multi-functional. I just couldn’t find what I was looking for.
So, I knew what I had to do. I started taking some courses in skincare formulation and creating my own…high performance, clean, botanically based, cruelty free, paraben free, sulfate free, phthalate free skincare that’s driven by real results. You know how I know it works…because I use it. And my results aren’t skewed by botox, fillers and face-lifts. I’ve never, not once, had any of those things. When I first set out to create my own skincare, I made a decision not to use any of the needles and knives on my face so I could truly see and show the unbiased, authentic results of the product I was creating. I see these other skincare lines and the people who promote them and I have no idea how much the product is doing and how much is a result of the botox, fillers and lifts they’re getting. That’s why I’ve had none of it. Not one injection.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is incredible. They’ve just done a major renovation and have beautiful gardens, a restaurant and most importantly some gorgeous exhibits.
While in the area I would hop over the bridge to Palm Beach and grab the best burger in town at La Goulue. They have a lot of fancier fare for those who want a cheese souffle (which they are famous for) and my favorite desert, Fondant au Chocolat.
While in Palm Beach, I wouldn’t miss the chance to talk a walk on Worth Avenue and explore all of the gorgeous via’s. There are some enchanting courtyards, luxury boutiques and al fresco dining.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
No one does it totally alone. There are people out there who will believe in you and have your back. Find your purpose, master it, never give up and people will get on board.
I was incredibly fortunate growing up with a mother who has a trailblazer in the entertainment industry. She defied the odds, she was persistent, confident, and understood the only limits she had were self-imposed. I would not be where I am today without her. I have also been incredibly blessed to have a supportive husband and close friends who always believe in me and are there when I need them.
