We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaime Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaime, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Growing up, I struggled with my self-image until I started to grow my beard and realized that I liked what/who I saw in the mirror. I felt more confident like I found one of the missing pieces to my overall image. I then spoke with some other bearded men and they shared similar sentiments. And thus, I decided why not start helping men to grow their beards. It started out with videos until we now sell products and give more detailed advice through our blog. We also do social marketing campaigns via social media, we recently did a campaign called #BehindTheBeard and the aim of the campaign was to show how multifaceted men are and that we are in fact, more than our physical features.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Outside of being a business owner, I am a Supply Chain WMS Specialist at The Wound Pros LLC. Overall, supply chain is new to me as I studied Management Studies and Marketing at university, but I love the challenge and the opportunity to grow and one day progress into my ultimate career field – Project Management. It hasn’t been an easy road but through juggling a business and a 9-5, I have learned how to transfer new skills to progress in both. However, balancing both is very tricky. Because of this, I have to put in a lot of extra hours to ensure that the business gets enough attention. But sometimes I’m so exhausted from work that I cannot consistently give the business the full attention that it deserves. That is where a good team comes into play. My team works well to aid in that balance. And I do see the team growing even more in the near future. The name of the game is growth and development. And while sometimes it may be slow, I continue to do what I can to continue on the path to victory.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I actually don’t go out often (I’m working on changing that!). But I would have to take them to Father Bull restaurant in Manchester, the National Art Gallery in Kingston, and definitely on a Chukka adventure!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my mother, Chancellor Hall, Danielle Mullings, Sevaughn McIntosh, the University of the West Indies, and all the other creatives and entrepreneurs before me who helped to pave the way. Some of my role models include Joel Nomdarkham, Michaelangelo, Steve Jobs, Romone Robinson, Brush1, and Monique Powell
