We had the good fortune of connecting with Jakeva Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jakeva, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As I entered into college I started to really come into my creative side. Growing up I really didnt hear alot about creative outlets and fields in my generation (millenials), so after immersing yourself into different friends groups and just experiencing the things you do in college I became super interested in wardrobe styling, from there it transpired into creative direction and other styling avenues like: food, prop and the like. I never thought going into it that it would become such a huge part of my life and also introduce me to many different people and opportunities. My process behind it was network, work with like-minded individuals and stay consistent and professional. This mindset has put me in the position to now start a new business venture involving my love for sneakers, streetwear and of course being a WOMAN. I plan to apply the same thought process with my new business as I do with my current one.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been a wardrobe stylist since 2013 and it’s been one heck of a ride to say the least. As I mentioned earlier I’ve been able to work alongside some very talented photographers and I’ve had amazing opportunities along the way. A few being; published in several known editorial magazines, featured on billboard’s and styling for national brands. There’s also been a few challenges along the way, you’ll hear no from people when you try to pull clothes, you’ll work with sh*tty photographers but all of these things prepare you for what’s to come; a silver lining. I never let those “no’s” deter me or hinder my ideas. I stayed resilient and always found a way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I currently reside in Louisville KY so if it’s not Derby time then it’s pretty chill on things to do here, nonetheless if bestie was in town we would hit up a chill spot on bardstown rd ( a strip of hip places to eat and mingle) and then maybe grab food at sapporo, a local sushi and hibachi restaurant that we frequent. I’m an introvert so I rather stay home and watch tv and all my friends know this lol.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out my friend Nikki, she’s one of the few people who introduced me to my creative side and really does a lot of cool stuff that makes her a tastemaker of her own! She deserves a lot of credit and is a trailblazer in the creative realm our friend group thrives in.
