We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamaal Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamaal, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I am a father to 15-month old son and I believe that the most important thing that I’ve done as a father is to be present for my son. It seems simple but it’s one of the best things that I can give to my son. As an attorney and owner of a law firm with offices in Florida, Tennessee, and Washington D.C. my schedule can be very demanding and my free time is oftentimes scarce. However, it is important to be to build a healthy relationship with my son and that means that my work life revolves around my schedule with my son and not the other way around. Yes, I have to provide for my wife and son but in my opinion being a father is much more than the material things that I share with them. Being present allows my son to see the way that I treat his mom with love and respect; he knows that I’ll comfort him if he has a tough day; we’ll do fun things together creating lasting memories; and I’ll also be there to witness his accomplishments and milestones. Through my presence, I hope that my son and I are able to build a bond where he feels like he can confide in me with anything and also have a blueprint on life and managing his expectations and relationship with himself and others.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the Founder and Principal Attorney of Jones Health Law and I’m so proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish over the past 8 years and what lies ahead for our booming practice! We have offices in Miami, Nashville, and Washington D.C. with plans to expand into additional markets. We’ve also recently started offering title insurance services through our affiliate entity called GenWealth Title.
I believe that our commitment to our clients, knowledgeable and experienced team members, and reasonable hourly rates is what sets us apart from others. I’m proud of the free health-law content that we publish regularly to our YouTube channel, blog posts to our law firm’s website, and the Jones Health Law Podcast, which can be found on all major podcast platforms. I’m also proud of the 45 five star reviews that we’ve received on Google and that number continues to grow each day.
Getting to this point in my career was not easy and it took a lot of hard work and perseverance when self-doubt would creep in. In February 2016, I founded my law firm, Jones Health Law. I started the firm without any clients and little savings but I had a dream and a plan. I overcame these challenges by being persistent, innovative, and constantly educating myself on best business practice and the law. One of my earliest challenges was getting the law firm’s name out there. In an effort to do that I attended every networking event possible and had a rule of collecting at least 3 business cards per event. I also wrote articles for magazines in exchange for free advertising space and made YouTube videos to discuss health law issues. These efforts not only increased my exposure but also legitimized me as an authoritative source on health law topics.
Along the way I’ve learned that you are going to stumble but there are learning lessons that you can take away from every obstacle that you encounter which will ultimately make you a better business person. There are so many lessons I’ve learned that it would take a book for me to share them all with you.
Jones Health Law’s practice areas include healthcare transactions, licensing matters, and regulatory compliance. We support clients at all stages of their careers and budgets. We are here for you whether you are starting your Healthcare career (i.e. First Physician Employment Agreement review), the prime of your career (i.e. Merger/Acquisition of Medical Practices) or if you are in the twilight of your career (i.e. Sale of your medical practice or Medical Office Building).
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area I would definitely want to show them the best that my city has to offer. I would start by taking them to Pura Vida for breakfast and then we’d go to Margaret Pace Park to work out. After our workout, I would take them to Wynwood to see the art and have lunch at Dukunoo restaurant while we listen to some reggae music. After we’ve had an opportunity to take a shower and get changed we would head to dinner at Komodo and then have a drink at Rosa Sky or Sugar.
The following day we would grab breakfast at Greenstreet Cafe in Coconut Grove and then take a stroll through Pinecrest Gardens so that they could see a different side of Miami. Then we’d go to SoHo House to hang out by the pool or head over to the beach for some fun in the sun. Later that night we would have dinner at my favorite French restaurant called Pastis before we attended a Miami Heat game.
The next day we might have an early brunch at the Rusty Pelican and then enjoy a yacht day or go jet skiing.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give my wife, Keiana, so much credit for supporting me and my career aspirations these past few years. I wouldn’t have achieved the level of success that I have without her. She’s done so much for me and business while taking care of our family and building her own business called the Stem Kidz. She’s watched our son while I travelled for work, attended client dinners with me, listened while I bounced business ideas off of her, and even arranged to have my law firm advertised on 4 billboards across Miami. She has allowed my dreams to flourish and helped me achieve so many of my goals and for that I am forever grateful. Most importantly, she is an amazing mom to our son, Jamaal Jones, Jr.
