We had the good fortune of connecting with Jameelah Trimble and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jameelah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought behind starting my own business stemmed from years of working & building other companies. As I matriculated through different agencies, following their policies and procedures I realized I could do the same thing for myself. I have always been known to go against the grain and question the status quo which often garnered a label of rebel. I saw it as learning opportunities. The voice. I am not afraid to say what needs to be said and have been known for my leadership qualities. So why not start my own business helping people find their own voice.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started Positive Therapy in 2017. The Positive Therapy Behavioral Services is a for-profit behavioral health company located in South Florida. After obtaining my Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW), I’ve known the goal was private practice since graduate school. The concept of the mental health practice was designed in an effort to provide professional quality services to clients in the community while dispelling the stigma associated with mental health treatment. The concept of a privatized office enables residents of the community to receive services in an intimate setting while helping to increase the comfort of clients seeking quality mental health treatment. Rapport building & relatability sets me apart from others. Having clients share deep intimate thoughts & feel safe to share experiences they’ve suppressed for years without questioning their safety is a quality I relish in. I am most proud of the times clients share how their work in therapy has helped them overcome or accomplish things they wouldn’t have without my therapeutic practices. What excites me is helping people heal, utilize skills learned in therapy and share their experiences with others to help someone else. As we all know, entrepreneurial endeavors are ever evolving. I learn a lot from the experiences of others. I ask plenty of questions from mentors & colleagues and do a lot of research. I will google & YouTube how to tie my shoes when necessary. Some things have worked & some things have not worked. I keep going. There have been challenges but allow my faith, family and perseverance to push me. I have learned you need several income sources to be successful. Some of those sources may come in the form of learning opportunities or exposure until the monetary sources overflow.
I want the world to know mental health & wellness isn’t a job for me. I was called to do this work & I’m very passionate about the clients I serve. Working with me will often feel like the unspoken conversation you’ve had in your head has just been recited out loud without angst or labor. It is my goal to help clients live freely while empowering them with tools to cope in their daily lives. Advocacy in mental health is important. We all need someone to advocate for us. In a world full of negative events, it’s important to remain positive. Positive Therapy is a brand that reminds you to take care of your mind & thoughts and remain in a state of positivity so that all opportunities are possible.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is exciting.
My best friend is visiting, our first stop is the beach! Fort Lauderdale or South Pointe Park. We’ll relax, meditate, snack, frolic in the waves & journal.
Throughout the week we’ll eat at Smith & Webster, YOT Bar & Kitchen, Lorna’s Caribbean, Arlene’s, We Shuckin’, Just Spoons, Cork & Barrel, House of Mac, Chef Rose, Red Rooster Overtown just to name a few.
We will drink, hangout and enjoy South Florida vibes at Bar One, Dukanoo, Bahama Breeze, Cooper’s Hawk, The Wharf, Salt 7 or any place my friend Taryn @thetravelingbartenderllc is serving up libations.
I enjoy people watching in Wynwood, South Beach, Las Olas & any mall or shopping plaza.
And when my friends visit, it is a must that I host Girls Night In. I love a good GNI with charcuterie boards, signature dishes and drinks.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is dedicated to my parents (Gary & Michelle) for ALWAYS having my back, Dr. Delvena for mentoring & always being 1 call away,
Carter Wiggins for the exposure & experience I gain learning in his office,
My Tribe of loving individuals who pour into me when needed & allow me to be vulnerable when I take my psychotherapist cap off. So If you’ve ever been there for me…This is dedicated to you. I love you & I appreciate you.
Lastly but certainly not least, my 3yo rambunctious genius of a toddler…thank you for loving Mommy, even on tough days and forgiving me when I’m too busy to play. I love you Papa!
