We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Seidner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I think when outsiders think about dietitians they probably assume we are watching what other people are eating 24/7. They assume we are the food police and are judging everyone’s choices all of the time. The truth is that there is a line between our personal life and work life, just like everyone else- the difference is that the whole world participates in our “profession” because the whole world eats, so it makes it harder to envision the boundary line.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a licensed and registered dietitian in private practice for almost 20 years. Private practice is not always easy. It takes time to create rapport within a community and keep a constant flow of new clients to make up for the ones that have been successful and are ready to move out on their own. One of my biggest challenges has been that I have always had my office within my home and therefore have never formally marketed for privacy concerns. Due to this reason I have been referred solely by word of mouth. With the conversion of my practice to be 100% digital since Covid, that has changed and I have begun marketing through social media platforms which has been a very fun experience! I believe my greatest attribute is the trust I instill in my clients. No matter what obstacle they are faced with, whether they are having a successful week or feel like they are failing miserably, my clients know they can always come to me for a nonjudgmental, professional, supportive nutrition counseling session. Many times we don’t even talk about food, because food is so often affected by what is going on in the rest of our lives. What sets me apart from others in my field is my focus on thoughts about food. I have proven that if your thoughts about food, hunger, fullness, body image and self acceptance are in the right place, the decisions about what food to eat become easy. Right now I am most excited about my MOMS Club. A group of moms getting together weekly on Zoom for 8 weeks to discuss the topics that most affect us when feeding our children. I want moms to know they are not alone. We are all going through the same challenges with feeding our kids everyday. When you add in a mom who has herself struggled with food and weight, the magnitude of the challenge only multiplies. The MOMS Club has created a community for moms to come and share their struggles and successes while gaining knowledge, strength and the confidence they need to be their best selves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a born and bred Miami girl, I know first hand how amazing this city is! I have to say that with my love of all things fashion and style that my favorite place to visit is the Miami Design District- it is like my Disney World! No trip to Miami would be complete without a trip to the beach. My grandparents had their condo on Collins and 88th street so that beach always brings me back to my childhood summers. Third on my list would be the Brickell area. My husband and I lived there for 10 years and saw all of the new buildings being built. I can definitely appreciate what a cool part of the city it has become and am amazed at all of the new places that pop up every time I visit! For eating I’m pretty simple, I love healthy eateries like Carrot Express, Pura Vida and the classic OG spot- Miami Juice. My second favorite is sushi- PubBelly is definitely at the top of that list any day any time! Last but not least I have to shout out my favorite local Italian spot called Mazzi Cucina. It is a tiny 10 table restaurant where the owner is the chef. They have the best fettuccini porcini EVER!!! Being a wife, a mom of 3 and running my own business does not leave too much time for a nightlife but give me a cosmopolitan or a nice glass of wine with good company and I’m a happy girl.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family- my husband, my children and my parents. To my husband who has given me the courage to aim straight for my dreams. To my kids for being my greatest accomplishment and for being the literal result of all of my hard work and love. Finally to my parents who have given me unconditional love and support from day one, I would not be who I am without you.
