We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Definitely, never give up! Always keep going, try new methods, try a new approach, always chase your own dream and don’t ever give up on your own dream and don’t let others decide your destiny. Some people have the luxury of giving up, others like myself had to continue and had to make it work, so for me personally giving up was not an option.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a singer, songwriter and play piano and I produce music. I have always wanted to be able to master not just one type of music but all genres and so I think this sets me apart from other artists. Being able to do multiple genres has always been a goal of mine and i enjoy singing and playing different styles and cultures! I am always excited about new tunes and beats that challenge me to do different things for example right now I am doing more live performances on social media vs recorded ones. They challenge me to become better and better and more confident in my ability. I am proud of how I have mastered what I enjoy doing and what I am good at in music. I never dreamed that my joy in singing and playing piano would take me this far, graduating from college with a bachelors in music, becoming an entertainer and performer and growing my youtube channel and my music.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would have my friend visit the island on which i was raised which is a small remote island in the southern Bahamas, called Long Island, during a festival such as our annual sailing Regatta! I would let my friend try authentic, native dishes and drinks like a fresh Conch Salad and a Sky Juice made from fresh coconuts right off the tree laced with a-lot of gin, which showcases more the true culture of the Bahamas and not just hanging out at local tourist spot. I like to hang out in the roots of the island to experience the real deal, the way us locals really live and experience daily life. Some island highlights to check out that i enjoy are Cape Santa Maria Beach, The Flats Bar, Stella Maris Resort, and also the Blue Hole, one of the deepest blue holes in the world and is truly unique.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My music professor at Nova Southeastern University, Mrs. Jessica Muñiz-Collado who encouraged me every day to keep pushing for a career in music which is the only thing I have ever wanted, even though its a very tough career choice and the road to success is long and hard. She always puts others before herself and always found ways to keep you motivated and to believe in yourself and your musical ability.
