We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Thomas Fitzpatrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had the love for dance. When I was in high-school, I started creating a plan to own my dance studio. Although I didn’t necessarily want to teach dance, I knew that I would benefit from dance education, so I decided take my passion further by getting my degree in Dance.

After teaching for a couple of years and not passing the required test to keep my position, encouraged me to step out on faith to officially start my business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Beyond The Melody Dance and Arts (BMDA) offers Dance training for ages 3 to adults. We specialize in professional instruction and gentle dance training to make everyone feel comfortable. We’re also known to rent out our studio space for rehearsals, classes, meetings, and/or intimate events. I believe our standards and genuineness sets us apart from others.

I’m excited to see what the unpredictable future has in store for BMDA. I know it’ll be great, even in challenging times.
We’re continuously growing because of the genuine support over the years.

Business has been extremely challenging and unpredictable. My faith and people believing in what we have, has been BMDA saving grace. I’ve learned that you cant take things too personal in business because it may hinder you from implementing your business senses and cost you financially. I’ve also learned that all money isn’t good money and that it’s okay to say no. But more importantly, I’ve learned that doing what truly makes you happy may not always bring financial gains and that’s okay.

BMDA may be small but we’re mighty and grateful for every opportunity that we’ve been given to make a positive difference. One day we’ll be a household name.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love all things family, food, and travel!! We would visit Tinta, located on Ft.Lauderdale Beach, for some breakfast. For lunch we would travel up north to Delray Beach Market to indulge in a few of the many restaurants they offer. A nice stroll and relaxation on the beach would be fitting while we’re in the area. If we’re in the mood to get a little fancy, Eddie V’s would be my choice for dinner.

I absolutely love the vibes and atmosphere of The Berry Farms, located in Miami, FL. It’s perfect for all ages. There’s so much to do.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would like to shoutout my life partner, my husband, Willie Fitzpatrick III for always being so supportive and helping me foster my wildest dreams. He’s such an amazing man!

My parents!!! They probably thought I was crazy by changing my major from Biology to Dance, but they supported me with minimum questions asked, because they believed in me. I appreciate them for letting me create my own path.

Lastly, to the people that introduced me to higher dance education, to my past Instructors, my phenomenal past and current employees, BMDA parents and students. None of this would be possible without any of them!
